As anyone who has read my early reviews knows- I love Italy! I've been going there now for the past ten years with my parents, and for the first time last year I made my own way there with the boyfriend for a nice Italian holiday. The GrandHotel Excelsior was my residence for numerous weeks holiday, and it certainly not one for the faint hearted! In the Thompson guide book it is described as 'quaint' which to put it politely is rather an understatement. One thing that can be said for it is it is completely oozing with Italian charm.

Once you arrive from the airport after the 2.5 hour flight to Croatia you pull up outside the HotelPark & from the front of the hotel it looks very big & quite sophisticated. There is a big statue of the MGM lion (Leo) outside of the hotel in gold which is a really bold, imposing statue and looks great. Apparently the entrance of the hotel used to be reached through the mouth of a lion but Chinese gamblers found this to be bad luck and avoided the casino so the entrance was changed.
We booked our room in England through the MGM official website. It was very easy to navigate. We had to use a credit card and they took one nights deposit from us (the rest was paid on check out of the hotel) but this all went smoothly. We stayed for three nights, Fri, Sat, Sun (which are sometimes more expensive than a weekday) and it cost us $520, approximately £260 which in my opinion for a 4/5 star hotel is really ...
