Advantages: prices are okay, the idea is great Disadvantages: bad hygenienic conditions
...I have to admit, that the Carlton Arms Hotel located on the Lower East Side in New York (21th Street) really is a unique piece of art.
Every room is designed and painted differently. Every room has another motive. We (my sister and I) stayed in a room, where we could see the whole heating system on the wall... painted of course ;-)
Mermaids decorated the walls in the bathroom.
I liked it when we checked in, it's something new. But... don't stay too long.
Because the longer you stay the more you realize, that those paintings should just cover the bad condition of this 4-store-building.
Oh, did I mention, that there is no lift? ;-)
After a few days we discovered the first cracks in the walls and in the tiles in the bathroom.
Oh speaking of the bathroom, we stayed in this hotel for 9 days.. it hadn't been cleaned at all during...

Advantages: many stores and attactions Disadvantages: confusing
...New York is a city of business. But it's also a city of tourism and
culture with it's great museums and attractions. Everybody should go
tere and try out the New York subway. The amount of different people
and places are amazing. Central park is a must. They have the cleanest
park I have ever seen and have these floral arrangements that are
fabulous. But you can't forget about shopping, it's just too hard, there's too many stores to choose from. Overall, New Yorkcity
is fantastic to visit but personnally, I find it too confusing to live
in....

Advantages: Good, safe location Disadvantages: Price will increase
...The Carlton is currently undergoing some major construction work, but don't let that put you off. The rooms are all in tip top condidtion following refurbishment and it is just the lobby area that is being worked on. For the happy traveller this means hugely discounted rates up until spring 2002.
The hotel is easy to find at 22 East 29th Street NewYork, NY 10016, on the corner of Madison Avenue. The reason for the construction work, and the upcoming price hike, is that the hotel is building a new front door facing onto Madison, meaning that by the summer this will be 'The Carlton on Madison Avenue'. This move to a landmark address is likely to mean landmark prices so get in while you can!
The hotel stands in the shadow of the Empire State building, a few blocks from Macys, close to the Flat Iron building.
Right now there is no bar...

If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
