...THE TRIP:
My trip to WashingtonDC was a very educational, fun filled, and an exciting trip. I got to see things that I have never seen before. We arrived in WashingtonDC early Friday morning, our plans were to stay there for the weekend. I couldn't wait to start the sight seeing.
THE BULK OF THE TRIP:
When we finally started to sight see, that was the best part of the trip. WashingtonDC provides tons of historical sites, museums, and other important buildings. When you visit WashingtonDC, I would recommend you go see: The White House, Ford's Theatre, ESPN Zone, The Capital Building, Veterans Memorial, Reflecting Pool, and Holocaust Museum. These are just some of the fun places to go while in WashingtonDC, but there are tons more. I hate only one thing about it, it is very crowded.
AFTER THE TRIP:
I would not do anything...

Advantages: open, much to see and do, quite cheap Disadvantages: not as many eateries in Washington Monument area
...My husband and I visited WashingtonDC in October 2007, whilst traveling around the States. We stayed for 3 nights, at the Allen Lee Hotel. WashingtonDC is an interesting city. Its history is in stark contrast to its modern political face and the side that is shown in movies and on TV. What struck me immediately about WashingtonDC were the open spaces, not just in the parks and at the water front but also when simply walking down the street; it's a nice change from the claustrophobia of many US cities.
Because there was so much to see in WashingtonDC, we opted for a tour on one of the many open top buses that circle the city and surrounding area. At $39 for a 24hr, hop on-hop off pass, this was a real bargain and the best way to see everything in the city, in my opinion. From the war memorials and Arlington cemetary to the White...

Advantages: lots! Disadvantages: expensive to get there!
...I am not a city lover, but there are a few exceptions and WashingtonD.C is definitely one! I have been lucky enough to visit Washington on 4 occasions now so feel I know it quite well. Like any city it pays to do your homework prior to visiting to enable you to get the best from your visit. I hope my review will be useful to anyone planning a visit.
Getting there.
***********
Getting to Washington from the U.K is not cheap. Fares vary enormously so it is worth shopping around. We flew with B.A from Heathrow to Dulles airport and paid about £250 in December 2000. I have checked the fares for 2005 and was quoted £377.00 including taxes and fees to fly in June; again with B.A. The fees are now £96, partly due to a massive increase in the cost of security. The flight takes about 7 hours.
On arrival expect to queue for at least an hour...

Just got back from a lovely weekend in London and stayed at the the Washington Hotel in Mayfair. Do I reccommend this hotel - well it is good value. I booked direct from their website and it cost £89 plus VAT including full breakfast for two. This is for more
