We arrived on Saturday morning 12th August 2006 at around 11am and although you are not able to book in until 2pm, the staff at the hotel are fantastic. They gave us the parking permit and told us we could come back at 12.30pm, as the room would be ready then. We parked up and went off for an hour or two around the harbour, which is situated about two minutes walk from the hotel. The staff are very warm and friendly and the overall appearance of the reception area is very clean, tidy and well maintained.

The Cherry Tree Hotel has 22 rooms in total and all offer en-suite facilities, prices are from £23.00 per person, per night low season to £30.50 per person, per night high season. There is an additional charge of £5 per room per night if you want a sea-view. Children between 2-14 years old are charged at half price and children under two are free. A deposit is required when you book, and if you pay by credit card, there is a £2.50
charge. Finally, you must vacate the room by 10am on day of departure.

The Hotel is situated on the seafront at the harbour end of Paignton and has stunning views of the coastline. It is about 3 minutes walk from the shops and Steam railway and about three minutes from the Harbour. The pier and multi screen cinemaplex are about seven minutes walk away. Paignton is mostly flat so is very accessible for all facilities. Paignton Zoo is only a short bus journey away. Also just across the road on the green you will find the mini golf course which is great family fun
The rooms themselves are clean and well presented and maintained. All rooms offer En-suite, a hairdryer, mini fridge, TV with built in DVD player, Kettle and facilities to make tea and coffee, a radio alarm clock, towels and toiletries. An iron is available on request. I personally have stayed in this hotel three times now and have always found the rooms clean and tidy with spare bedding in the wardrobe if required, excellent spaces to place your clothing, the beds themselves on average are quite comfortable. All the rooms are no smoking. Ground floor rooms are available but you do need to book at least six months in advance to obtain these, as there is only one ground floor family room.

The room is always spotless and clean and very well maintained and decorated. The tables are all set out beautifully with everything you could require. The staff are there straight away to request if you would like tea or coffee. A table is set out for you to help yourself to a selection of cereals, grapefruit segments or yogurts, and they have jugs of Orange, Pineapple and grapefruit juice set out with glasses for you to help yourself to.

The breakfast is very well presented and taste fantastic. None of the food is overcooked or undercooked, nor is it swimming in grease. You can choose from a full English breakfast to other menu set ups such as scrambles egg on toast poached eggs beans and or tomatoes, or just toast and more. You get a rack of toast with the full English breakfast and the breakfast itself consists of Fried egg, two rashers of bacon, a sausage, fried bread plus beans and tomatoes or just one or the other.

The Bar is situated opposite the breakfast room and is fully licensed with a good selection of beers, lagers and spirits available, it has quite a good number of seats and permits smoking. It also contains a fruit machine and a widescreen TV. The only thing I found very off putting is that even though I am a smoker myself there is no door or partitioning wall separating the Bar from the eating are so If the bar has been busy the night before you can still smell the smoke when eating breakfast in the morning and also the Tables are set out for breakfast during the day so everything on the table is open to smoke from the bar all evening. The bar also offers cards or dominos if you wish a game, and a dartboard.

The hotel also offers a lounge with its own TV, it is always clean and tidy and is quite comfortable. In the lounge, there are a couple of toys and games for the children and you can rent DVD's from the hotel lounge of you wish although they do not have a huge selection. The hotel is very child friendly and will supply you with a travel cot and high chair should you need them. Packed lunches are available on request.
The hotel also offers a room with a four-poster bed for that romantic occasion with beautiful views of the bay, and with prior arrangement, they will arrange for special occasions, Flowers, Balloons, Champagne and Chocolates.
The hotel has a stair lift down to the breakfast room and bar and there are ground floor rooms available, providing you book in advance, however, there are about seven steps up to the main hotel door so in my opinion it is suitable for people with some level of walking disabilities but not wheelchair friendly at all.
Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very clean, tidy and well maintained, although I feel some improvements should be made to it.
