Royal Terrace Hotel

Advantages: Great location, lovely entrance areas
Disadvantages: very shabby in bedrooms

Edinburgh is one of those cities near enough for us to visit for a weekend, and with enough attractions and shops to keep us all busy. So, we tend to go a couple of times a year. I usually book online, and because I don?t know the city well, it?s usually a bit of a feat finding the hotel. Last time we went, our hotel was very difficult to find, and because it was at the opposite side of the city to ?our side? (Newcastle side), we had to negotiate the city centre- not good for anyone who doesn?t know the city. This hotel, by contrast, was incredibly easy to find. Armed with my route finder directions, we set off, and it seemed that no sooner had we entered the city than we were there. The hotel itself is located on a beautiful tree lined street of Georgian terraces- very stately. Our one problem when we first arrived is that ...

Review of Royal Terrace Hotel, Edinburgh

Bring back the Terraces

Advantages: better atmosphere
Disadvantages: depends on the crowd control

The prices of seats at a game are extortionate and the atmosphere is being totally lost. I say bring back the terraces. We are not hooligans or thugs. We want to stand and sing and watch our team standing up. The hillsbourough disaster wasnt about standing up or sitting down. It was about police incompetance leading to a cover up. Football is so popular nowadays a huge terrace and grounds could host a crowd or 70 or 80 thousand. and prices would certainly go down to about £10 so the clubs would still make the money. Man Utd requested it last season, but its time they listened and the good old days would return. ...

Livin' It Up in Lovely Adelaide (The Long Story)

Advantages: Fantastic Wines, Excellent Pubs, Cultural Atmosphere, Fab Public Transport
Disadvantages: none

with playing fields, and general "green" areas that are excellent to walk through. The city center is bounded by North Terrace (home of the museums, galleries, library etc), South Terrace, East Terrace and (you guessed it) West Terrace. All roads are basically either parallel to each other or perpendicular. It is very helpful if you've never been here and are trying to find your way around. In the centre of the city you can catch a tram that will take you all the way down to the beach suburb of Glenelg. The tram itself has been around since 1929 and is quite quaint and cute, though they are getting new trams at the end of this year to replace the old ones. Another excellent beach suburb just down from Glenelg is Brighton. There's a jetty there as well and some very nice restaurants in the area. While Adelaide is quite spread out as far as ...
