I know, I know, Blackpool is perceived as fish'n'chips, bucket and spades, amusement arcades, B&B's. What about something different?
Choice Hotels in Blackpool run 3 hotels - The Claremont (near the North Pier), the Talk of The North (near South Pier) and the Cliffs Hotel (North Promenade just up from Gynn Square).
My family and I have stayed at the Cliffs Hotel on 6 occasions, ranging from weekend breaks to full weeks. Why? The hotel is large and well appointed - it has a 1920's feel about the facade and interior and is very clean and spacios. There are 5 bars and a large resturant. The food is excellent with a very good selection - the staff are very helpful and friendly.
There is a well appointed leisure club - free to residents. It has a pool, jacuzzi, small but very good gym, sauna, sunbeds and a leisure club bar. It has also has an excellent kid's club - my little girl (who's 6) is now on first name terms with the kid's club staff and they remember her (for good reasons I might add). The kids club offers a great range of activities from 10.00 am in the morning right through to 9.00pm at night and its free! The only drawback is that you have to stay in the hotel.
The rooms are well appointed too - all have private facilities and some of the family rooms are large (they accomodate a double bed, single bed, cot and a pram with ease and still with room to spare).
Situated on the quieter and more select North Promenade (none of the usual Blackpool trappings up here), you're only a 10 minute tram ride from the centre (stopping right outside the hotel) and parking is plentiful and free! (For those of you who know Blackpool free parking is rare). Plus, once you've stayed, your keycard provides a discount on your next visit.
But if you're coming to Blackpool, why not visit other places? The Lakesre only 1/2 an hour away - Cleveleys and Fleetwood (and the factory outlet site, Freeport) are only a short car or tram ride away (about 3 and 5 miles respectively) from the Cliffs. Morecambe and Lancaster are about 30 mins away.
Advantages: Excellent staff - especially at breakfast, reception staff especially Stewart also very helpful and friendly Disadvantages: Food was basic, parking - got blocked in and could not move our own car!
...trip to Blackpool. Attracted by the Cliffs facilities for the money we decided on booking it. Well we were extremely happy, I strongly advised entering the basement, kids soft play area, table tennis, arcade games, pool, snooker, swimming pool and gym! You'd never believe it would all fit down there!
The rooms were clean, the toilets would have been too small to sit on if I was a few dress sizes bigger!!
The food at breakfast was fresh and hot ... ...move our own car!! However the hotel did try it's best and transported us themselves to and from the restaurant we had intended to eat at.
Overall great fun, at little out of town but a tram stop is right outside the front of the hotel and with Blackpools long prom you can walk to the pleasure beach easily. ...

Quick review of The Cliffs Hotel, Blackpool Review ofThe Cliffs Hotel, Blackpoolby

A place where Art Decor meets woodchip. Badly in need of thorough decoration. Preserving Art decor features is not an excuse for painting everything with emulsion including woodwork that should be glossed. Car Parking is terrible and you are better off trying to find a parking place on a side street. Carpets on each of the floors are becoming threadbare, expecially close to doors. Bedding is blankets that I remember from 30 years ago. On a positive note, the food standard is excellent and the staff are attentive and willing to help. Addressing the above concerns would create a fabulous hotel.
