We as a family know Bournemouth pretty well, we have relatives there and it's not to far to travel. We have stayed in many 3 star hotels(that all the budget will allow us) in and around the town. It's a great place for the kids it has great beaches shops and lots to do do. So to the hotel. We usually find ourselves on Westcliff side of the center, this time however, after much trolling online, we found ourselves on the Eastcliff side of town. And having sieved through the fantastic chose of hotels, the Cliffside hotel seamed to be the one that was a. within our price range b. close to the beaches etc and c. had some nice pictures on it's website....oh dear....why do I always fall for C. Don't get me wrong on arrival things indeed matched the photos I had seen online, however on leaving the lobby we found we had traveled through time and space to 1989. The decor has been untouched for many many years, with a dark and dingy theme. When we made it up the stairs, the lift only has room for 3, not including bags, room 234 awaited us. Now to say the pictures viewed on the Internet where deceiving would be under stating the fact that it bore no resembles to it at all. The room clean enough and the beds comfy-ish, the bathroom was okay, the decor was well lived in, with views of the hotel next door, but nice enough. The staff were mostly nice if a little snotty. The breakfasts where great, a help your self affair with plenty of the usual suspects. As for the beach that was not far 10-15 minuet stroll down a gentle slop/hill, not so much fun on the way back up. We paid £392 for 5 nights bed and breakfast in a family room( 2 adults and 2 children) during half term, which from previous experience I think is good value. So if you don't mind time travel with a snotty member of staff or 2 the Cliffside is good value for money if a little dated. And the moral? Don't be fooled by the pretty pictures you see on the Internet.
