The Clift is a beautiful and stylish hotel. It houses the stunning Redwood Bar which has gorgoues cocktails and you're surrounded by grand wood panelling and very cool plasma screens. The hotel also has the Asia de cuba restaurant which is great and the portions are big enough to share, although I don't think its quite as good as London's Asia de Cuba.
The staff are also friendly as we had backpacks from our round the world trip and ... ...would do.
On the downside, although the rooms very beautifully done with a lilac and cream colour scheme, the walls are VERY thin between the rooms which is shame - so you can hear your next door neighbour's TV and anything else they might be doing! ... more
The Clift is a beautiful and stylish hotel. It houses the stunning Redwood Bar which has gorgoues cocktails and you're surrounded by grand wood panelling and very cool plasma screens. The hotel also has the Asia de cuba restaurant which is great and the portions are big enough to share, although I don't think its quite as good as London's Asia de Cuba.
The staff are also friendly as we had backpacks from our round the world trip and were treating ourselves for our last 2 nights. They didn't bat an eyelid when we walked in with them which some 5 star hotels would do.

Laid Back Sophistication.
The CliftHotel in downtown SanFrancisco is an experience one should witness providing of course you are beautiful enough to enter.
Notably the ''Redwood Room'' a high class bar in a very congenial atmosphere.
Once past the host who may vet you, the bar staff are actually very friendly and although the drinks are expensive by American standards, it's certainly worth it - about $ 15.00 for a glass of pinot noir.
For a pretentious eating and drinking establishment I found other guests to be most approachable, certainly an awful lot of disposable income floating around.
Seating is most comfortable, laid back in a red leather sofa one has a terrific vantage point of observing the varied clients - groups of pornstars, celebs, jack and jill on honeymoon, sailors just arrived at port, gigalos etc, etc ...

in SanFrancisco? Schrager is known for his fabulous design and opulent hotel chain?so perhaps I should suspend my disbelief for a little while longer.
The reception room of the hotel is quite simply incredible. Ultra-modern, minimalist and HUGE with a tiny little ?reception desk? off to the left, and a smattering of the infamous Stark furniture on a pure white marble floor: perhaps this is a taste of things to come. Sure enough checking in is a pleasure and I am escorted by the bellboy to my room. And what a journey. Tiny tiny little television screen are ?implanted? into the lifts on three sides and play clips of things like a little kid grinning at you, gold fish swimming, a man lifting his eyebrows up and down?oh yes, ube-trendy.
So my little white room. What do I have? Well, I have an enormous double bed, all in white ...
