Coombe cross Hotel - a trip into the 1970's

Advantages: Close to some points of interest
Disadvantages: Not geared up for younger families

We booked this hotel to break up the long journey to Cornwall for our 2 children aged 1 and 3. We were expecting a "traditional country hotel" as per the marketing material however in our opinion the premisis owed its demeanor more to that of a care home. Tired and in real need of modernisation, the decor and facilities were really a trip down memory lane of family holidays long since passed. The reasons for us choosing this particular hotel were, availability of a cot, baby listening monitors and family friendliness. Coombe cross failed us personally on all counts. When we arrived there was no cot despite this being outlined as a prerequisite, even after phoning ahead mid-journey to double check it was ready for our sleeping 1 year old the sole cot on the premises was in use, so my daughter waitied in the car, at 10pm, until one ...

WYNN STAY OR WILL STAY? YOU DECIDE

Advantages: Excellent beer, good leisure facilities, ample parking
Disadvantages: Feather pillows, pefunctory efficient staff, leisure facilities in a different building, small room, cannot meet DDA requirements (at present)

Why in the almighty ones name am I staying in a hotel in Oswestry you may well ask. I almost questioned the decision myself, but that?s another story. I had a Monday meeting in Bolton and a Tuesday meeting in Newtown, Mid/North Wales, superb really as one is en-route home from the other. However, I have strict criteria when seeking hotels, if I can get a pool and high-speed internet access, fabulous, then High Speed Access, then a pool, at least one please to keep me amused. Sadly, once you head south from Wrexham and Chester, high speed internet access and middle / upper class hotel chains are both very few and far between, and I didn?t really want to trek all the way from Wrexham for a 10am meeting. I stumbled across the Wynnstay rather by accident, and being part of the Best Western Chain it just had to be OK didn?t it? What ...

Premier Inn, Charing Cross Glasgow

Advantages: Close to town and all amenities
Disadvantages: none

I have never stayed in the Premier Inn before, but I felt I had to share my experience of the past weekend. The staff in both reception and the restaurant were fantastic, they were really helpful and made you feel right at home. The room and bathroom were both spotless, warm and the freeview television meant that my daughter didn't miss her soaps while she was away. The bed was both big and comfortable and we didn't have any trouble getting to sleep. We opted for the breakfast deal and we were not disappointed, the food was well cooked and warm there was also plenty of choice. Access to the hotel was excellent for both able bodied and non-able bodied people, we didn't have a wheelchair but we did have a six month old baby and a pram, and even though it is situated next to Charing Cross rail station we didn't hear a thing from ...
