Super

Speedy service and easily accessible from the A12

Fixed menu which rarely varies

I am quite lucky really because I have a job that sometimes entails going out for lunch with colleagues. I thus get to visit a variety of places but one of my regular haunts is the Crown Inn at Ardleigh as it is within a couple of miles of my office. The Crown Inn is part of the Vintage Inns...

Worst meal ever.

On Burns night along with five others I visited The Crown Inn at Ardleigh to have without doubt the worst meal I and my friends have ever eaten out. It is true to say that we did not order until 9.30pm but what was served up could not have been prepared by a competent cook let alone a chef. Two of...

poor service

Came for a nice family meal at the crown, only to be served our food all at different times with children being last. whilst the whole time we received no cutlery or condiments, which we asked should we get them ourselves, which they replied no but took over ten minutes doing so. Same again for...

I visited this delightful little pub on a Thursday lunchtime with some anticipation after reading reviews. I found the service of top quality along with the food, which was served promptly and hot! The deserts were naughty but very nice!! Would definitely visit again.

Pub cuisine

Standard

In my previous review I stated how poor I felt the quality of food and service was here during the evening of Valentines Day. However, after having written to the manager expressing my disappointment, I received a letter back offering meal vouchers for two. Plus assurance that service was indeed...

I used to go to this pub and the food was really quite nice - but then we kept having bad experiences - food coming out cold, steak over cooked twice in a row etc.... THEN they changed the menu.... could it get any worse? Our food took almost an hour to come out and when it did - it was truely awful, tasteless overpriced rubbish... e.g - i ordered the baked mushroom for a starter and received a clearly deep fried mushroom which tasted awful - we had a roast dinner and the beef tasted of deep fried fat. I just cant understand why this place becomes so busy - i would not recommend this place to anyone... it's awfully managed, food takes ages and is often burnt.

We went back giving the place a second chance after we had a awful meal a year ago, it was the worse meal ever, we had the roast dinner, the roast potatoes were black, sausages were pink and to top it all my pork was gammon and the waiter told me I was wrong. We will never go back and will...

Went out with a couple of friends and wanted somewhere easy to meet for all of us. The crown is in a good location just off the A12 at Colchester. I rang beforehand to make a booking, but was told they don't take bookings on a Friday, and if I went at 7.30pm there would be no problems. When got...

Rude and aggressive staff, not child friendly

If you have children, in my opinion, AVIOD The Crown at Ardleigh. Only had 6 high chairs for a restaurant that seats hundreds, we had to put our baby on our laps whist she threw all our food on the floor. When we complained they got really aggressive and told us there was plenty and that we...

Good

The restuarant serves plain pub grub at popular prices. If you are looking for something special this is not the place. Very odd shaped gammon steaks they are never horsehoe shapes, more like thick long back. I would suspect the majority of the food is frozen . Not a very exciting menu. Ideal if you want a quick no nonsense meal. Staff are vey attentive but could do with a revamped menu.I think all Mitchell and Butler Public Houses have this same menu..
