On entering the front doors of the Crown you immediately see the long bar, covering the whole of the back wall, which is directly opposite the doors. To the right is a section of high bar tables, a couple of slot machines and access to the toilets, to the left are the comfy sofas, behind which is the main food seating area, which consists of booths and small tables.
+++++++++++ Food & Drink +++++++++++
The food is pretty much traditional pub grub such as steak baguettes, burgers, chips etc but they also have a daily specials board which usually has slightly more adverturous fayre. The food quality is not bad but not amazing - middle of the road really - and the food prices are fairly standard for a city centre bar.
Drinks are as you would expect from a pub but they also have an extensive wine list and a very complicated looking coffee machine that will fire out most variations of coffee and hot chocolate. Compared to other local pubs the prices for soft drinks are fairly steep (£1.15 for half a pint of coke), beer/lager is pretty much standard but again the wine list is fairly pricey but they tell me that is because they have better quality wines than the other nearby bars.
++++++++++++ Entertainment ++++++++++++
They have a late licence and frequently stay open until 2am at weekends with a DJ or live music. For sports fans there is the draw of the big screen - you can't wear football shirts though if you want to be admitted. During sports tournaments such as football, matches are quite often ticket only to avoid any trouble or overcrowding, unfortunately this can take away some of the atmosphere.
This is not a family friendly pub - children are not allowed!
++++++++ The Staff ++++++++
The staff are usually very welcoming and friendly, although recently I have noticed that they appear to have a couple of eastern european staff whose command of the English language isn't always the best but they are learning fast!
++++++++ Clientele ++++++++
As The Crown is located in the middle of the business district and not far from the Arndale Centre, the clientele is mainly local office workers and shoppers out on a day trip.
++++++++++ Cleanliness ++++++++++
The bar and eating area is kept fairly clean, in very busy periods it can take a while for the staff to clear dirty plates and glasses from tables but that is only to be expected. As it has only fairly recently undergone a refurbishment the decor is fairly fresh and clean looking.
The toilets are a different story - I suppose they are kept fairly clean but you can rarely find toilet paper, except for the reams of it lying on the floor and you'll be lucky if there is soap or anything to dry your hands on.
+++++++++ Conclusion +++++++++
I like the Crown for a quick lunchtime drink and dine. The food quality isn't gourmet but if you like reasonably priced chips, salad and a steak sandwich or burger then this is the place for you.
TOP TIP: If you want to eat there on a Friday then it's best to get there around 12 o'clock or you will be struggling to get a table and the food service is fairly slow until around 2pm - it gets very busy!
Advantages: 4 Star hotel, Situated in good location, Friendly staff, Beautiful hotel, Good hotel facilities Disadvantages: Expensive
a nice feel to them you can feel the build quality in the rooms the beds are comfortable the desk is made from oak tree they look and feel great.
One thing that I usually find with hotel room bathrooms is that they are small and in fact too small I feel like I don?t have enough space to stand in them and that it cannot be comfortable. However the bathrooms in the Crowne Plaza are perfect they just look beautiful and posh. I had enough space to stand around; I had space to put my clothes and enough room to shave without banging into the mirror I guess you can get my point.
Bed and breakfast
As part of the deal that I got was evening meal and breakfast included with the rooms (We had to pay for drinks) but it was a very good deal. We went down for dinner and were greeted by a very helpful member of staff who took us to a table ...
Advantages: Impeccable Five Star Hotel Disadvantages: It's In A Casino!
borne out most strikingly when plans for the Crown Towers Complex were first tabled over a decade ago. To say the proposal was controversial is to put it mildly. A massive area, occupying almost the entire south bank of the Yarra River in the city centre, was to be given over to a Casino, Hotel and Entertainment Complex; a gargantuan monument to excess, extravagance and bad-taste. It was to be a $1 billion development, featuring a 1000-room hotel, a massive virtual-reality cinema and entertainment centre, ballrooms, a 1500 seat banqueting hall, a rooftop garden and internal shopping arcade.
THE OPENING: Once completed, the complex seemed to confirm most of the old guard's gravest suspicions. A cavernous building-site was gradually transformed into a massive Cathedral to consumption, and the cities face was disfigured - for life. Crown ...

A lovely, friendly hotel located in small historical market town of Bawtry
I love this little down, just down the road from my parents in Doncaster (home to the famous St Leger).
When I was living in the area, I often popped in to the Crown for an evening meal, or a drink with friends and have recently, on a visit back to my old stomping ground, stayed at the hotel.
What to Expect
A friendly welcome, good food, nice rooms everythig you would expect from a good quality hotel. The Crowns website nailed it on the head when they said " Step into the Crown and you will immediately discover a chic, idyllic retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life". It really is a pleasurable experience staying here.
