NICE BUILDING

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

Built in similar style to the Four Courts but on the opposite side of town - this amazing building could be said to balance the Four courts. Ideally located on Dublin Quays – it is one of the easiest tourist locations to find within this amazing city. Although very little occurs around this building today it was once one of the busiest buildings in the city. It played a key role in years gone by – and even in the recent years of conflict within Ireland. ... more

beautiful building

Advantages: easy to find
Disadvantages:

...large building is situated on the quays. It is a large building which is rather similar to the Four Courts building which is situated on the opposite side of town but yet again on the quays. This was a key building in Dublin years ago and played a very important role with the importing and exporting of goods into and out of the city. Although there is very little to hear about or to see when visiting this building it is worth going to have a look ...

A beautiful building

Advantages: amazing history to this building
Disadvantages: none

...it has been damaged in the War of Independence. Designed by Dublin's renowned architect, James Gandon, the Custom House took almost a decade to build before finally opening for business in 1791. Like many of Dublin's finest buildings and monuments, the building became embroiled in some of the violent incidents that marked the struggle for independence and was destroyed by fire in 1921 during the War of Independence. Later the customhouse was rebuilt, ...
...was carried out in the 1980s. The visitor centre allows access to the few areas of the building which remain as originally designed by Gandon, including an impressive octagonal area and fine river-front views. The centre hosts audio-visual tours with a Gandon Museum, historical information and displays on customs administration. It is visible from the DART line as you cross over the River Liffey. ...

Review of Jurys Inn Nottingham

the other city hall

Advantages: nice garden, handy for shops
Disadvantages: not much to see in side

Apparently this is supposed to be based upon St. Paul's in London. But then again, it also looks like the Customs House in Dublin (which was a design originally intended for St. Petersburg). It does look quite pleasant and the grounds give a nice area in which to sit down, especially on a hot summer’s day (thought they don’t seem to be too frequent in the North). It’s also handy for the buses and the shops. The buses congregate on two opposing sides of the square (Donegall Square, notice the ‘ll’, it was named after some duke or some such person who had the two in his name as opposed to the one you get in the county). These are the red city buses as opposed to the blue of Ulsterbus. The shops in Royal Avenue face you if you stand with the front door to your back. They are the major British retailers ...

Mad Cabbies Rough Guide To Dublin

Advantages: See opinion

of primarily young people are being joined by others from all around the globe, all eager to partake of the spoils of the aptly named “Celtic Tiger”. ~ ~ The entertainment and service industry has had to respond in kind to cater to this new market. The last few years have seen an average of 10 new hotels every month opening their doors for custom, and the cities’ pubs and night-clubs are now the talk of Europe. ~ ~ There has always been plenty to see in Dublin, as it is an ancient city, founded back at the time of the Vikings. Indeed, there is now a Viking longship permanently harboured in the River Liffey just up from the Custom House, to remind Dubliners of their Scandinavian forebearers. It looks particularly well over the Christmas holiday period as it is all decked out in lights. ~ ~ There is enough history in ...
