Advantages: Great exercise, stunning scenery Disadvantages: None
Devon has two moorlands, Exmoor and Dartmoor. Dartmoor is in the centre of Devon and is 368 square miles. It is rich in history and Archaeologists have found remains of Neolithic and early Bronze Age, Hound Tor also has a deserted Medieval Village on its slopes.
Although over half of Dartmoor is private land it is designated 'access land' and walkers are free to roam pretty much anywhere. The military uses parts of Dartmoor to train and also firing ranges, they have since the Napoleonic wars. Red flags fly in these areas when firing is taking place.
It is perfect for a relaxing walk with the dog, or you can take it seriously and make your way up the many granite tors. There are lots of places to stop whilst driving and take in the breath-taking views with roadside car parks. In the bigger car parks by popular Tors there is usually ...
Advantages: Excelent prompt service, good value and quality. Take small orgainzersseriously Disadvantages: I have not had reason to use them for some time, and things may change
I used this company to order rosettes for several photo shows and one village gymkhana, and the reason I haven't used them for a couple of years now is because I stopped running shows, not because I was in any way dissatisfied with their work.

Advantages: Cheap, access to Moors, friendly Disadvantages: None
So over the Christmas break I wanted to get some fresh air I wanted to go for a walk on Dartmoor. Now I could drive into the middle of the moor, leave the car and walk, or I could park the car a little way out and get public transport to the moor, this has the benefit of helping the environment, and is the option I chose. This op is not about the walk, but about the transport I took to get to onto the moor.
** What is it? **
The Dartmoor Railway is just that, it is a railway that takes you from Okehampton up to Meldon Quarry (right on the edge of the moor). Okehampton station is not part of the National rail network, although there is a link to the main line at Exeter. The station has been lovingly restored to how it would have been in the 1950's
In fact Okehampton station was once part of the Southern Railway, and was ...
