If you want great surroundings for a drink in Edinburgh, The Dome is the place to go. You walk into The Dome on a red carpet and are greeted by a liveried doorman. That's just the start of the experience. Then just look all around , and particularly at the ceiling. It is spectacular at any time of year, but enter in the Christmas period and you get the bonus of large and sophisticated decorations. The tree above the bar is something to behold. We wondered how they got it in there? While there are a lot of decorations it is tastefully done. You can eat at The Dome, but we just popped in for a drink. Busy on a Friday night but well worth the experience. Cheapest bottle of wine £18.00.
Advantages: Very educational, indoors in a rather damp city Disadvantages: lots of information but didnt really catch my interest
Last week my boyfriend and I were organised enough to get leave together (shocking isnt it!!!) So we headed north to see his family and have a few daysout.

Advantages: Grat day out, Fun, Educational Disadvantages: Not many!
Dynamic Earth is situated beneath Salsbury Crags, just on the edge of Holyrood Park. Not far from the Queen's official residence, and just opposite the site of the new Scottish Parliament building. The building itself is easily recognised by the white roof which has a remarkable similarity to the Millennium Dome!
This visitor attraction is one of the newest in Edinburgh, and has been surrounded by a huge and massively successful marketing campaign. If you live in Edinburgh you will no doubt have seen bus advets, and bill board posters everywhere - and if you live in Scotland, you will have most likely seen the TV ads.
To the first time visitor, it may first appear a little confusing when you first enter, as all there seems to be is a ticket desk and a cafe in the corner, of what seems like a giant tent!
Once you've purchaced ...
Advantages: Very Interesting Disadvantages: can cause dizziness
My son was interested in visiting the dome in London but in view of the distance this was not possible and we decided on a trip to Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh instead.
It is an impressive looking building situated in Holyrood Road close to Holyrood Palace. It is at the top of a flight of stairs and looks like a ship in full sail.
