To the first time visitor, it may first appear a little confusing when you first enter, as all there seems to be is a ticket desk and a cafe in the corner, of what seems like a giant tent!
Once you've purchaced a ticket, you make your way down a flight of stairs (lift available) into the first 'zone' which is a mass of facts and figure on both Human and Physical geography. From earthquakes to Birth Rates... ...

So onward into the museum itself and into the time machine that whisks you back through 4,500 million years from the Space age to the Ice age. This gives the impression of moving very fast with time flashing past and can cause dizziness.

Edinburghs Dome Review ofThe Dynamic Earth, Edinburghby

Advantages: Very educational, indoors in a rather damp city Disadvantages: lots of information but didnt really catch my interest
...after a short time in the pub we decided to see what else there is in Edinburgh apart from a trainm station and pubs. So we headed off in a random direction and stumbled across the new Scottish Parliament building (ugly building isnt it?) and accross the road what looked like a smaller version of the Millenium Dome, intrigued we decided to take a closer look and found that the dome was a science museum, curious we went in. The concept itself is quite ... ...dry on a wednesday afternoon the onbly section that caught our attention was the final section where you are seated in a planetarium style room and watch an interactive show.
The other sections are the first room where there are a few displays which are desgined to introduce you to some of the ideas and information that youll learn more about in the later stages of your tour. Then there is an announcement, 'the time machine wil leave in 1 minute' ...

...Dynamic Earth sounded fantastic in the leaflet. It had rave reviews, was central and the prices seemed quite reasonable (£8.95 per adult). Better still, under fives went free and a 10% discount was offered if the leaflet was taken.
We arrived quite late, the last people are let in at 3.50pm. We were advised that we would be rushed through and had to be at certain parts at certain times. The first part of the tour says you can experience an earth ... ...board which measures the scale and makes lines on the screen. This is definately better for older children, my four year old was not impressed.
Further down you travel in a time machine. Here, different music, news, pictures etc through the eras are shown until you get back to the beginning of the earth, when the planet was being formed. This is educational, but also dull for those too young to understand.
You do get to experience a volcanic eruption. ...

...down if I had paid the entry fee.
The whole experience takes about 2 hours at most and although the building looks impressive from outside - the exhibition lacks excitement. The staff are very enthusiastic and I felt they added a lot to the journey. The best part was the room about volcanos as it was quite exciting and took me by surprise. The room with the rainforest was good, but would have been better if there were some real creatures to see ... ...would be like.
The main thing lacking is life - I think young kids would be quite bored as there is a lot of reading/watching screens. I think its like walking through the discovery channel. Compared to a place like Deep Sea World - this is not value for money. ...

Advantages: Very interesting and an Iconic symbol to Scotland Disadvantages: The price of the building £460 million to build!!!
...'s. They where first put in Church's General Assembly. Then the Scottish Parliament building started. After a long 300 year struggle we finally got a parliament building.
This meaning Scotland could finally have it's own system and some powers instead of debating them at Westminster. It's original budget for the construction was £50 million but that shot up to an incredible £475 million! Out of taxpayers money as well so was it really worth it? You decide...
**Where Is It?**
It is stationed in Scotland's capital Edinburgh. The Parliament sits right below Arthur's seat. It is beside the famous Holyrood Palace and DynamicEarth and you can't really miss it. ...I moved to Edinburgh about a year ago to follow my heart and work! At first is was a bit daunting being so far from home, but Edinburgh soon worked its magic. The city centre doesn't really feel as if you are in a countrys capital, more like a friendly big town. The cobbled streets and turreted buildings add charm, character and warmth to the city. There is tonnes to do if you are a visting tourist, with Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood House, the Royal Mile, Princes Street, DynamicEarth and numerous other museums and galleries. Of course there is the obvious festival time in August when the entire city is mobbed by tourists from all over the world to see various exhibitions, films and comedy shows.
Definitely worth a visit...it will probably feel like home for you too!...
