A beautiful town in Snowdonia

Advantages: Lots of shops, good walks, nice eateries
Disadvantages: Can get very busy

Not so long ago I wrote a review about the Snowdonia National Park in which I mentioned a lovely town called Betws-y-Coed and I thought, since it is such a lovely place, it deserved a review all to itself! Living as we do in Llandudno on the coast of North Wales we often go for a drive through Snowdonia National Park and we regularly stop at Betws-y-Coed for a cup of tea and a mooch round the shops. Getting there It is a really easy place to find as the A5 runs straight through the centre of the town. Looking at a map of the area it is pretty much due south from Llandudno and due east from Caernarvon. There is a small railway station in the centre of town so it is accessible by rail. There is also an excellent local bus service. Web site There is a web site at www.betws-y-coed.co.uk which gives lots of information about ...

A Lovely B&B In Snowdonia

Advantages: Beautiful Location, Good Price, Great Bar
Disadvantages: A little way outside of Betws-Y-Coed

just outside of our preferred location of Betws-y-Coed. The price was reasonable and we booked it up straight away. The hotel is part of a complex of hotel, youth hostel and campsite and is situated just across from the magnificent Swallow falls, the highest continuous waterfall in Wales. On arrival, we were checked in to our room that was situated in a small block just across from the main building. My sister was also situated in this block whilst my parents were in the main building itself. Although all rooms had the same basic amenities, no two were alike. Ours consisted of a double bed, a double sofa bed and an ensuite shower above the bath. My sisters had one double bed, two singles and an ensuite with a shower cubicle. Finally, my parents just had the one double bed and again a shower above the bath. Given the bank holiday weekend ...

Blood Eagle

Advantages: A good idea
Disadvantages: Overly descriptive and complicated in places

After having read Russel's second book about Jan Fabel, Brother Grimm, I wasn't overly keen on reading anything else by this author. I had enjoyed Brother Grimm in places but found it to be disappointing over all. However, somehow I still ended up with Blood Eagle in my hands. This is the first book in the series of Jan Fabel, Erster Kriminalhauptkommissar (Principal Chief Commissar) with the Hamburg Police murder squad. The book starts with an email from "Son of Sven" to Fabel which makes it clear that this Son of Sven character is a murderer and who is taunting Fabel personally with the notion that this is only the beginning and that he will not stop until he is made to do so. So far so run of the mill crime book. However, the plot quickly thickens as Fabel starts to investigate the brutal and apparently ritualistic murders ...
