Hi. I love traveling, skiing, music. Got my dream job selling Hi-Fi a while ago. It was hard work - just fetching & carrying for no reward. Back at an electronics bench now. If I could just find a job combining those first 3 things....

We stayed in the Fairmont Palliser, Calgary last weekend after a week long Ski holiday to the Rocky, Purcell and Kootenay mountains. (6 mountains in 8 days - just to make any skiers reading jealous!!) It was a great place for some luxury after skiing all week! We didn't really use too many of the facilities as we only stayed one night but the public areas of the hotel are exceptionally grand but not at all stuffy. This is Calgary, after all! One thing I would say is that the prices advertised on Ciao for a stay here are a ripoff. We paid C$130 (~£75) for a queen room on a Saturday night. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Not particularly large but had enough room for us and our gear. The bathroom was a little past its prime, with paint peeling a little from the ceiling but the towels were very clean and the provided toiletries top notch! It was also exceptionally quiet and we were only on the 4th floor, so expected some traffic noise but heard none. The advertised prices for meals etc are rather expensive for Canada. We ate at a pub on the road behind the hotel, which was a bit basic but advertised '150 beers from around the world'. The European (especially Belgian) examples were at very descent prices for Canada where import beer can be shockingly expensive. Try some of the local microbrews - they are very drinkable. The hotels location is very good. There is good (and cheap) shopping to be had in the area - especially at Winners, a discount fashion chain not unlike TK Max in concept, but less emphasis on hoodies and track pants etc. We also found an excellent Indian restaurant a few blocks away (Royal India, 150 Sun Life Plaza, 112-4th Ave SW, Calgary. (Tel. 403-266-0913)) which I would score as about 8/10 for UK quality and at least 9/10 for North America (where good Indian food is harder to find). All in all, a very comfortable hotel, friendly staff and a bargain if you can duplicate our price! Highly recommended.
