The Fat Duck Restaurant, Bray

Advantages: Wild combinations and cuisine, an experience
Disadvantages: Very expensive, Not a place to take the kids

The Fat Duck, Bray, Berkshire
========================
One of only a handful of 3* Michelin restaurants in the UK, Bray is blessed by having two such illustrious establishments. The Fat Duck is owned by chef Heston Bumenthal, a creative, and some might say, inspired genius who has built up the reputation of the Fat Duck since 1995, having bought it as a 450 year old pub.

I decided to organise a once in a very-long-while ...
...and wine.

The trip was to be a competition (or at least a comparison) - The Fat Duck versus The Waterside Inn (the other 3* Michelin establishment in Bray).
You can see my other review of the Waterside Inn for the comparison.

The Fat Duck restaurant

Advantages: Magical experience for food lovers
Disadvantages: Too expensive to do every year

The Fat Duck, Bray. A magical gastronomic experience to say the least. My partner and I ventured to the restaurant in October 2007 which boosts 3 Michelin star and 2nd best restaurant in the world 2008 (among many others). Our reservation was at 8pm, we arrived at 7.30pm with excitement, the setting where the restaurant is located can only be described as quaint. We went for a drink in the Hinds Head also owned by Heston Blumenthal which was just ...
...Walking into the restaurant it seemed so humble, small and cosy. Once seated we started with champagne to toast our magical night to come. Being the 1st time at such a prestigious and renowned restaurant for strange and wonderful food we felt we could only do this visit justice by having the tasting menu which consists of around 15 courses.. You can view the menu at www.fatduck.co.uk. The service was amazing anything you would need was at your finger ...

The Waterside Inn, Bray

Advantages: Best food, fantastic service, great venue
Disadvantages: Pricey

versus The Fat Duck (the other 3* Michelin establishment in Bray, awarded that accodlade in 2004). You can see my other review of the Fat Duck for the comparison. Booking ------------ I think the fact that this establishment operates as a hotel helps. The telephone line was answered quickly. Unfortunately the reservation staff were temporarily unavailable so the helpful chap took my number and promised they would call me back within 10 minutes. 5 minutes later reservations called back and a table was available on my chose Friday night. I did discover that they book up well in advance for Saturdays (already full 2 months in advance) as well as Fridays. No credit card was required to secure the booking (nice - unlike the Fat Duck!). They just call you back a couple of days before the booking to ensure you are still planning ...
