Full review

In the past few years there has been so many of these "shopping centres" popping up all over the uk, having all the major high street shops all located in one place and all under one roof. Normally these places are placed out of town area's and in industrial estates.

The Fort shopping centre is located in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham in the West Midlands

How to get there
----------------------

Get on the A38 Tyburn Road or A452 Chester Road which can be found on either junction 5 or 6 of the M6. Follow the signs to the "Fort Shopping Park" and Star City.
You can't miss it. In the centre there is a massive tower that lights up in the evening.

Facilities
--------------

Unlike most town based shopping centres, the Fort shopping park has free car parking which draws people to it rather than pay to park in Birmingham Town Centre. You can park there for as long as you need to. It has two car parks one right next to the shops which holds 1,250 cars. if that is full, which is sometimes is on a Saturday then there are 750 more car park spaces below the shops.

There are spaces near the shops that have been reserved for disabled visitors which can be "pre booked" and there are mum and baby spaces. Both of which are larger spaces so it's easy to get in and out of the car.
The fort shops are positioned slightly above the car park and there are both wide ramps and stairs for easy access.

Opening hours
----------------------

Monday to Friday they are open from 09:30 AM to 8:00 PM

There is late night shopping available on Thursday when the Fort opens until 9:00 PM

Saturday 09:00 AM to 7:00 PM

Sunday 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Bank Holidays 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Shops
---------

There are loads of shops at the fort and the shops are large and stock a great range.
The Fort shopping centre has been designed so that you can wonder through one shop to get to another. This is clever as when you are queuing to pay for your goods you can look at the other shop's goods and so you find yourself wondering through them all. The centre is shaped like a square W and the gaps are the car park areas. The shops are in a continuous line and there is a covered part outside so if its raining you won't get wet.

For children's clothing and accessories there is
Adams, Mother care and other shops such as Next and BHS stock baby and children's clothing.
The newest shop here is the Early Learning Centre.

There are a few electrical retailers here, but I am not sure how big their range of goods are.
Car phone Warehouse, The Link and Dixon's. Also the large Boots sell electrical equipment like hair dryers, fitness equipment and cameras.

For an outfit for a special occasion there are many clothing stores for both men and women including Suit Direct, Next, Hawkshead and River Island.

There is a big WHSmiths store here too. It's the biggest one I have been to! There is also a massive HMV store right next door.

For shoes and sports clothing you're spoilt for choice with Brantano, Clarks, Sports Soccer, JD Sports, JJB Sports featured here.

If your after the latest fashions then head down to Oasis, Wallis, Principles, Warehouse Topshop
Dorothy Perkins, Evans and New Look (great for good quality cheap womens clothes and shoes) to get that must have outfit.

If you go during the sale season you're bound to get a good bargain from Oasis and DP's. They always have a £5 bargain rail. I brought a pair of plain black wedges for £5 from Oasis last Saturday.

There is just one Travel agents here that's the Holiday Hypermarket, which seem to have some great holiday offers in the window!

After all that shopping your going to need replenishing.

There are a few restaurants here all in one place in the corner of the shopping strip. The toilets are situated here as well and they have a mother and baby room too. There is the popular Burger King which is often filled with children on a Saturday afternoon. For a treat go to Drucker's and eat a chocolate éclair!

There is a pub if things are that bad called the Mill House which also do good pub grub for reasonalbe prices.

So if your in the West Midlands area and you fancy doing a bit of shopping then the fort is a great place to go, especially mid week as it's quiet them. It does get busy on a Saturday but not as busy as Birmingham town centre.

Shoppers Paradise
Review of The Fort by Sabrina_imogen

Advantages: All in one place
Disadvantages: not in city centre

The Fort really is the place to go for a day out shopping with the girls. With all the high street shops in one place it makes the whole shopping experience more relaxing and enjoyable than it would be traipsing around the city centre. All the necessary shops are there, topshop, HMV, boots and numerous food outlets. With ample car parking space it is easy to park your car for the day and it is sign posted allthe way so it is easy to get to even though ... Read review

An alternative to shopping in the Bullring
Review of The Fort by Yorkiebee

Advantages: Opens until 8.00pm weekdays, good range of high street shops
Disadvantages: Out of town, shops not under one building.

...was unable to go to the HMV in Birmingham's bullring (because Peter Andre was there signing copies of his new single) and was recommended to try the Fort in Castle Bromwich as this had a large HMV and other shops for last minute holiday stuff. The Fort is an out of town shopping centre and situated off the M6. It was relatively easy to get to by car but I am not sure how good the public transport links are - I saw one bus stop on the way there and ...
...and parking is free. The shops are not under one building and are all in a row in a sort of large three quarters square shape. There is a covered walkway where you have to walk to get to one shop to another. The shops are mainly made up of the Arcadia Group i.e. Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, Burton, BHS etc and there is a good range of high street women's fashion shops such as Warehouse, Next, Miss Selfridge and New Look. There was also a Marks & Spencer ... Read review

The Fort Shopping Centre
Review of The Fort by metcaljl

Advantages: Good shops good variety good quality,
Disadvantages: Not many cheap shops

...number of great shops at the Fort Shopping Park and that's why I decided to write this review. {EDIT: This one is in Birmingham Erdington not far from spaghetti junction} First of all lets look at the locality. The Fort is a relatively easy place to get to if your in the car but the public transport routes are poor. There used to be a bus service (the number 11) which dropped you right outside the fort but then this got re-routed. There are no ...

Fort built in 1475
Review of Hammamet Fort, Hammamet by  mumsymary

Advantages: good building
Disadvantages: Not a lot there

...On our Holiday to Tunisia this spring we stayed in Hammamet. In the centre of Hammamet stand the fort a solid building built in 1475. This was built to defend Hammamet against invading forces from the sea. The fort is right by the sea edge. Next to the fort is the medina the market selling many good from small shop fronts. The fort is no longer used as a military base. It is open to visitors to look around. It will cost you a few dinar to enter. This fort is quite an impressive substantial building. It is not really huge though .There are steps up to the top of the walls and you can walk right around getting a really good sea view . This fort is in a good defensive position . The centre of the fort is just the pounded floor with a small building in the centre . This houses just a cell . It did not take long to walk around... Read review

Fort William Rocks !!!
Review of Fort William (Scotland) by  anonymili

Advantages: Breath-taking views, extremely friendly people
Disadvantages: None that I found...

...~~*~~ INTRODUCTION ~~*~~ Fort William - a delightful place to visit - before I went there 2 summers ago I assumed it was just a fort and not a whole new wonderful holiday experience! Hmm how wrong could I have been? The place where both Rob Roy and Braveheart were filmed, it's definitely a place to see if you believe in exploring the UK's finest places. I'm not an expert at writing travel reviews so please bear with me if this review isn't laid out exactly as you'd expect it to be. ~~*~~ WHERE AND WHAT IS IT? ~~*~~ Well as it's in the "United Kingdom Experience" I'm hoping everyone knows that it's here in the UK but it's right up there in the West Highlands of Scotland. As the crow flies (or car drives?) it's roughly 500 miles from my home in West London to Fort William, which equates to 8½ hours driving if you average... Read review

A ruin near Fort William
Review of Inverlochy Castle, Fort William, Scotland by  mumsymary

Advantages: tranquil spot
Disadvantages: none

...We stayed on the west coast of Scotland for our holidays and had to go into the nearest big town Fort William. After spending the morning there we headed out along the A 82 to wards Inverness After only about a mile there is a small sign and a turn to Inverlochy castle. A map can be found at. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=212500&y=775500&z=3&sv=212500,77550 0&st=4&ar=N&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf. The castle is on the edge of the town in a semi industrial area. After we too the turn we note a car park in front of us we decide not to take it, but turned right over a wooden bridge where we found free parking in another car park. The castle was situated between the two. It seems quite tranquil around the immediate castle are We had taken a packed lunch with us to eat at the castle so we strolled to the castle... Read review
