The Garage is situated on Sauchihall Street in the city centre just before you get to Charing Cross. The entrance is not very big but you can't miss it because it has a great big yellow truck above it.
The norm when going out there would be to go to one of the many pubs ... ...the time it is possible to pick up free entry flyers for getting in. The club actually opens at about 10.30 however it is usually very quiet untill half past eleven as up to that point you can only stand about in one of the bars untill they open up the main dance floor.
Without a flyer from one of the pubs, the cover charge is pretty decent. The price is usually £3 for students (must have id thats valid as they check them all) and ... more

The Garage is situated on Sauchihall Street in the city centre just before you get to Charing Cross. The entrance is not very big but you can't miss it because it has a great big yellow truck above it.
The norm when going out there would be to go to one of the many pubs around the area untill about 11.30 where a lot of the time it is possible to pick up free entry flyers for getting in. The club actually opens at about 10.30 however it is usually very quiet untill half past eleven as up to that point you can only stand about in one of the bars untill they open up the main dance floor.
Without a flyer from one of the pubs, the cover charge is pretty decent. The price is usually £3 for students (must have id thats valid as they check them all) and £5 otherwise although if you have a snap fax (a student thing) you can get in for free before 12am. At the door the bouncers can be a bit picky but as long as your not trying to get in in a big group or are steaming drunk, there should be no problem getting in. You are likely to be searched (all girlie hand bags are) so there is no point on trying to smuggle any of your own drink in! Once they even made me take my belt off because it was studdied so they can be strict!!!!
Once you get past that point, you need to walk up the stairs to the cash desk. When busy you do have to queue on the stairs but trust me its worth it!
You could be forgiven for feeling like you will get lost the first time you go there, you are pretty much hearded in through the first bar to get to where you put your jackets in (£1 per item) and then you need to go up another set of stairs to the next bar. Once you get past this though, you start to appreciate the sheer size of the club.
There are seven bars in total spread over three floors which all cater for different peoples tastes in terms of music and if you fancy dancing like a maniac or sitting to have a chat. There is the Attic which plays grunge, indie and rock music, the karaoki bar which speaks for itself, the main dance floor which plays chart and cheesey music, a balcony area above the main floor where you can see all the action, G2 in the basement which tends to play more R&B/Hip Hop stuff, a cocktail type lounge where you can sit and relax on comfy sofa's and a large bar area just off the main dance floor. So you see, there really is somthing for everyone there!
One of the main good point of this club is the prices of the drinks in the club. At any point, the cost of a vodka and mix or a bottle of bear is never more than about £1.50 with midweek prices usually being less, sometimes down at a pound! If you want a shot, you are looking at about £2.50 although by the time I usually get to buying them I just hand over the cash as I'm well gone in terms of drunkenness!! While it can be busy, you usually don't have to wait much longer than about 5 mins to get served.
Personally, I prefer to stay in the main floor area as thats where they play chart music and I prefer it. Plus, you are usually likely to find at least someone other than the people you came in with in this area to dance like a maniac with!! You can put in a request for a song here or to get a message displayed on the large projection screen. You should get your requests in early though as I have found that its usually booked up by about 1.30am.
The only downside of the place (other than the stairs you have to try and navigate down after 10 vodka and cranberries and a good few sambruca shots!) is that for some reason the floor in the main hall is always filthy so I would advise against wearing any really nice (or white!) clothes in case you happen to fall over (happens to me quite a lot....) as they will end up filthy!
The club stays open to three but it can be a good idea to head down to the cloakroom to get your jacket at about 2.45am to beat the queue but if you are going to get others jackets for them I would advise asking what they look like as the attendants won't release a coat without a description which is a really good security measure of you were to have dropped your ticket and someone else had picked it up.
Once outside, you have the chice of about 10 fast food places in the immediate area ranging from kebabs and chinese to (the almost mandatory in Glasgow) chips and cheese. The prices are higher than during the day and you should expect to pay about £3 for chips with some chedder on them.
The taxi queue is right outside the Garage and ranges from being able to get one straight away to having quite a wait which can be another reason for leaving the club that little bit earlier. Otherwise, you can walk about 15 mins down to Renfield street where you can get night busses to most places in the city for £2.50.
All in all, I adore this place and have spent many a happy night (at least I think I have a lot of the time.....!) in there. It has been described as just a student club however untill recently I wasn't a student and neither was any of my mates and we went there all the time. The people who go there usually range from about 18 up to 28/30 so there is a good mix of people. I also don't find it too be as much of a meat market as some other clubs in the area as most people are really just out to have a good time!
I would recommend anyone visiting Glasgow to give this, one if its best known clubs, a go and if you see someone passed out at the door at the end of the night, please just step over me!
Advantages: Cheap booze, great music! Disadvantages: Really busy most nights
I might not be the best person to review this place because im a student, and living in Glasgow this is usually where i end up every thursday night!
Anyway the Garage is situated at 490 Sauchiehall Street (Glasgow)thats the Charing Cross end by the way, and is probably classed as a student club. Basically, it costs around £5 for non-students and £3/4 for students (with ID) Sundays to Thursdays. On a Friday and Saturday its around £8 for non-students ... ...On entering the Garage, you will probably wait ages in the queue - thats because its always so busy (especially thursdays!!). The bouncers insist on seeing some form of ID - preferably student ID on designated nights - so be prepared and always have it ready (they hate time-wasters). There is another way to get inside, thats through the doors of G2 (another club), then just go upstairs. However, the bouncers have cottoned on to this idea and they ...

Advantages: Cheap drink everynight Disadvantages: Everyone usually looks younger than yourself
The Garage is ideally situated for clubbers who like a drink before hand at The Charing Cross end of Sauchiehall Street. You would notice it from the rather unpleasant yellow truck sticking out of the wall above the door.
Let's start at the door - five bouncers all staring down the girls tops and wanting to fight with all the boys. You MUST have ID with you to enter The Garage, and sometimes it must be student ID, on certain undesignated nights.
... ...you are a student.
The club is split into two -
Downstairs is a vast room with 3 bars, places to sit and a large dance floor. It plays chart dance music, so prepare for Steps, Britney, Robbie and all that stuff.
Upstairs is not open every night, but when it is, it's much smaller, but you are less likey to be punched or involved in a fight. Just the one bar up here, and a few places to sit as you listen to the indie music blaring from the speakers. ...

Advantages: Cheap drink, good for students Disadvantages: Dirty and pretty boring
I went to the Garage for the first time a couple of weeks ago and DAM it has to be the most overrated club Ive ever had the displeasure of going to. I apologise in advance to those of you who differ from my opinion on The Garage but what people see in this place I have no idea. I have to say that the 50p vodka mixer is a good deal ( but there is no possible way it is Grant's vodka in the bottles on optic - profit?). The amount of time you actually ... ...you might say this is the same in any other club - but this really is ridiculous. One of the main problems I had with this so called great night out at The Garage was the place is so dirty it is unbelievable - I actually came out the place with muck or some crap up to my knees, that was the thing that really put me off this cave of a club.
I can all ready hear you saying this guy (as in me writing the opinion) must be a stuck up ****, but Ill tell ...

Advantages: cheap and always popular/busy Disadvantages: not so much of a club as a meat market
The garage or the shack, the classic glasgow student night out dilema, which to choose?
The answer is it doesnt really matter, you will find pretty much the same, mostly student, type people there, you will here the same, mostly chart rubbish, music there and you will likeley be just as intoxicated when you leave.
Unlike any other 'student' club i have been to however they are extremely keen to give everyone a thorough search when they go in the ... ...at least more variety than the shack, with differnt rooms playing 'different' music you can at least go get a drink in the 'rock' G2 if your not loving the cheesey rubbish in the main room.
the club is looking a lot better after the re-launch but still has the slighly grubby sticky feel to it.
The toilets are tiny for a club so huge and no one really dances on the dancefloor anymore, they seem to just stand around and wait to pull/be pulled in ...

Advantages: cheap drink Disadvantages: You will be filthy when you get out. no one knows where it comes from!
The Garage in Sauchiehall Street is a great night out. It is situated at the charing cross end of glasgow. The best night at the garage is a Thursday, where entrance is about £3-£4. This can end up being one of the best, and cheapest nights out you can have. A vodka mixer is only 50p on thursday. The music suits everyones tastes, it varies from 70's music to the current chart songs. There is also a part of the club suited to everyone. There are quieter ...

Advantages: A Secure Garage For the Car! Excellent Food & Service. "Cold War" Ambiance. Disadvantages: Not a Cheap Option. Some Grim Bedrooms.
the border - and on this well known bandit and highwayman route - is security for the car. Mrs R had called ahead and been informed by the Piast that they had both guarded car park and garaging available. Our car and Christmas presents would be safe! Garaging the car also saves you having to spend hours de-icing the car before the onward journey too - this year it was actually +6 deg.C, we have stayed here when the temperature has been -18!
On our first visit here it was the last Saturday before Christmas, not yet used to Poland and its' ways I was not anticipating finding a room 'on spec' on this the main party night of the year. Mrs R made the call, they had both garage for the car and room, or suite, for us!

Advantages: regular drinks promos, late opening, good music Disadvantages: toilets, attracts a number of posers
; the toilets are also located down stairs. The decor isn't too bad for a club, the floors are dark wood, the walls are a deep red colour. The club used to be an old warehouse/garage so upstairs the ceilings are really high and some exposed brickwork gives it an industrial style feel. On the high ceilings are big screens playing arty style visuals to compliment the music.
The bouncers at the club are nice enough although sometimes they can be a bit rude. If you are a regular you will have no trouble getting in but if not you might have a few difficulties. One night me, my sister and my friend all went to Thompson's, we arrived at the door and the bouncer said "Sorry ladies members only," in a very rude way, much to the amusement of me and my sister our friend just pulled out the member's card and we got in. Don't let this put you off, Thompson ...
I liked garage music originally because it was underground - something you didn't often hear on mainstream radio like Capital FM. Thanks to artists like the artful dodger I have heard songs like "Rewind" and "Moving Too Fast" so many times that I am ready to puke when I hear them.
Garage Music was innovative, interesting, underground, new and the songs didn't get old because you would only hear them a few times in clubs, and they were always different in clubs because they are mixed differently. Hearing it on mainstream radio - thanks to DJs like the Artful Dodger has really made the garage sound taste stale. I like to hear it on the radio, yes - on underground stations like upfront 99.3 FM (London) as they don't have playlists and have MCs or DJs who make the same song different each time. And you don't hear the song too often ...
