Myself and my brother visit ambleside three times a year or so and we have always meant to eat at the glass house so we finally did Wish we hadn't bothered, Service was very good although the food came so fast it must have been already ready on the hot plate.Certainly it came rather dry and stringy ( my duck confit) and my borthers vegtable tart was bland. A rather pretenstious atmosphere, but perhaps One is spoiled by London resteraunts. and really expensive for what we got. Lucies kitchen is far better!!! There is a big thing on the bakc of his menu about how Gordon ramsey did kitchen knightmares there well Gordon yo may have injected some class for a short time but a mediocre chef remains the same!!!
Quick review of The Glass House Restaurant (Ambleside) Review ofThe Glass House Restaurant (Ambleside)by

my wife and I had a short break in the Lake district last week and stayed near Ambleside. We thought the Glasshouse restaurant looked nice as did the menu. It was only the next day when we mentioned that we'd been there to someone that we were told it had been on Gordon Ramseys series. I obviously have no idea of how it was before then but the other night we were really impressed. The service was attentive but not imposing. My Rissoto starter was delightful, the duck confit for my wife was very good and my braised lamb was not only tasty and very tender, but was also ample enough to leave me feeling completely stuffed. Excellent place to eat.

...with not much room but excellent bar food, and a dazzling selection of beers. They even produce their own premium beer using local damsons for an unusual flavour (available in Booth’s!).
Another firm favourite, unfortunately of a lot of people, is The Drunken Duck at Barngates. Here again, a combination of older style surroundings (with log fire) and good food make this a very pleasant way of spending lunchtime or an evening (or perhaps even the gap in between too)
Other eateries we have tried and can recommend for those ‘push the boat out’ moments include:-
The GlassHouseRestaurant right next to the famous ‘House On the Bridge’ in Ambleside is a real find. This converted water mill still has moving parts inside - shame really that they can’t do something ‘green’ with all that power going to waste, even if it’s only drive ceiling...
