I had the misfortune to be stuck in Scarborough and needed a hotel. The Grand looked promising (appearances can be deceptive). certainly it charges "grand" prices. I paid what I would expect to pay for an average 3* hotel. I made the mistake of booking one night B&B
The place was almost full,. it transpired with a country and western convention.
The room, a twin, was cramped. It was allegedly ensuite (call the toilet and shower a broom cupboard). The room desperately needed redecoration/refurbishing/cleaning. I have to say that it is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
The hotel appears to cater for two separate "classes" which have different dining rooms and different quality of accomodation. I tried breakfast, a big queue to get into the "restaurant" (bizarre) then breakfast a rasher of bacon, a spoon of congealed baked beans...need I go on...the staff were not what I would call outstanding. The only thing that they were good at was taking my credit card when I checked in
Fortunately there are some very nice cafe's in Scarborough which serve excellent breakfasts.
I can say hand on heart that it was the worst food and hotel accomodation I have ever encountered.
If you are thinking of staying at the Grand don't do it
