Down The Hatch

Advantages: Great food, pleasant location, children welcome
Disadvantages: Baby changing facilities are pathetic and the prices are over the top.

From the M3 coming from London, take the junction marked 6 for Basingstoke / Southampton. Just off the A30, ...
...into Old Basing. The Hatch is sign posted with a small square sign if you are approaching from Basingstoke town centre.

London Road is the main road off the motorway and leads you through to Old Basing. Keep going straight for about two miles and The Hatch is on the right hand side of the dual carriageway. There is a large VW dealership on the opposite side of the pub. Conkers garden centre is almost next door incase you over shoot ... more

A Fyne time was had by all!

Advantages: Great food, excellent service
Disadvantages: Only seats 56--which is a disadvantage if you're not one of them!

of being drunkard free. Tables are small and cosy, and the decoration celebrates seafood, and Scotland, brilliantly, without feeling like you've descended into some kind of bagpipe blowing, kilt wearing hell. The staff is smartly attired, and presentable. At the rear of the restaurant is a fresh fish counter - Not only can you purchase fresh fish and seafood to take home at the end of the evening, but you can even see the staff removing the fish to cook your meal. The kitchen is also visible towards the rear of the restaurant through a small hatch, and you can witness the chefs preparing the food. What we ate: ********** We each ordered a starter and a main course, as well as several side dishes to share. The menu had a decent variety of fish and seafood dishes, as well as vegetarian and meat dishes. Our starters were: Loch Fyne ...

SEA of SAND

Advantages: Well laid-out holiday resort, great beach, close to Amsterdam
Disadvantages: Freezing in January!

, but the best place to snack in the Netherlands is at a FEBO stand. I love all those spicy croquettes and what-nots, and I like the way you bung a coin in and open up the particular hatch...it's so tacky! All ethnic cuisines were catered for, with an abundance of Asian restaurants, especially Chinese. My son is a lover of Chinese food (I'm strictly omnivorous...or is that glutinous...or even, couldntcareless) and so I let him pick our choice of restaurant. Guess what? He chose Mexican. I'm kidding. We went for a Chinese, and very nice it was too. With so many different places to choose from, you're always afraid you pick the skankiest eatery in town, and choosing one next to the railway station would normally ensure that was the case. However, on this occasion, we chose wisely. We splashed out and had the rice-table. It was plenty ...

Sail away with me in Clydebank

Advantages: First class service, Value for money, Delicious food
Disadvantages: Not clear if there is wheelchair access.

a lollipop for being so well behaved and she said ?Thank you very much, I like it here I?ll be back? She really is quite the little madam! Lol. All in all I wholly recommend the restaurant as the PLAICE (groan) to go for a hearty meal and pleasant atmosphere and makes a very welcome change from all of the usual fast food places we normally go when shopping. I found out when looking on the internet that this is actually a ?sail through? fast food place as well?.similar to a drive through but for boats! What a novel idea? It has a hatch over the water for passing boats to stop and order their fish and chips from. Sheer brilliance! None of my party needed to use the restaurants toilets on our visit so can't comment on the cleanliness of them...although my guess is that they are just as hygienic as the rest of the place looks. Marks out ...
