This May me and my boyfriend decided that we were ready to go away together, unfortunately like a lot of people we didn’t have a lot of money, so we decided that anywhere in Europe would be out of the question (the euro!) and we wanted to go somewhere popular so that we knew we wouldn’t be wasting our money. We finally decided Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt as we’d never been there before, it would be nice and hot in May and we could afford it.
I’ve never been all inclusive but I knew that I wouldn’t be taking a lot of spending money and therefore all inclusive was the only option, and so we booked 11 nights in the Hauza Beachhotel
Booking the holiday was easy, it was all done in a ten minute phone call to the holiday operator who we was put in touch with via teletext holidays. The lady on the phone recommended the Hauza as she said it was the cheapest of the 5 star hotels available for when we wanted. We booked the break in May as there would be no school holidays and therefore I knew that the hotel would not be packed full of children.
Getting there
Luckily we booked our transfers and so there was a shuttle bus waiting to take us to our hotel, the shuttle didn’t leave till about 45minutes after we came out of the airport which was frustrating especially at 11pm, however luckily the Hauza was the first drop the shuttle made and the hotel is located around 10 minutes (if that) from the airport. My first thought of this was – oh joy, I will get to listen to airplanes all day!
First impressions
We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by two friendly looking Egyptian men in Egyptian outfits who took our luggage to outside of the reception
area so that we could check in. The whole place is very dark at night and there are not many lights to light it up so it was very hard to get a good look when we first arrived. However the main entrance is a huge room with a very high ceiling and is open and staffed 24hours a day and the reception staff, security staff and luggage carriers are all extremely friendly, although have limited English and therefore i’m glad we didn’t have many questions!Checking in was a matter of handing a printed receipt to the receptionist and being handed a key card, 2 towel cards and 2 free meal tickets to their el carte restaurants and our all inclusive wrist bands. After checking in you are then taken by a small shuttle to your hotel room. Being taken to our room in a shuttle gave me the impression that the hotel was going to be a nightmare to manoeuvre around and I was very anxious to see it in daylight to work out how big the place was! Rooms
Our room was huge, I have added some pictures but basically each building has three floors of rooms and around 20 rooms on each floor, there were approximately 30 buildings spread over the resort so it was huge! Our room was one large room with two double beds, a table and chair, balcony door, chest of drawers and a tv, and obviously a wardrobe. The first thing I noticed was how clean the room was, all of the rooms are very simply decorated and the lights are very dim so it is hard to adjust in the first few days.
Our bathroom was a good size and had a bath with shower in it, sink and toilet. I had no complaints at all about the room, it was simple and stylish, and although I wouldn’t rate it at 5 stars, i would definitely give it 4 and I cannot express how important cleanliness is to me and how clean this room was.
Structure of the resort
In the morning it was easy to see that actually our monster of a resort was going to be easy to move around, the whole resort was made of a huge reception and main entrance, around 30 hotel buildings, a main restaurant, a man made stream and lake, two swimming pools which were huge a beach and beach bar and lots of greenery and things i have probably forgotten.
The Beach
We spent a few days of our holiday on the beach, it was a long stretch and full of sun beds and umbrellas. Luckily thanks to the time of year it was, even though the resort was very full of people, it was easy to find a quiet corner if we needed one. I love beaches and this one was definitely a good one, however even though it was sandy, the sand was very hard and contained lots of small stones at points and so it was hard to walk around barefoot.
The weather was in the 40’s and so we was constantly thirsty, on the beach there is a Beach bar which is shaded by big wicker umbrellas and palm trees, and the bar is risen from the beach on some rocks and has a few tables and chairs. Not only was it useful to have a bar on the beach, but it was also an amazing atmosphere sitting down with a drink above the see under big umbrellas!
The Sea
The sea was lovely; I was told it would be warm, which it wasn’t! However, it wasn’t freezing so it was easy to get into. There were huge fish which came right up to the shore and were a bit too tame for me (fear of big fish) the whole scenery on the beach made me feel like I was on a tropical Island and I could not rate it higher.
The pools
There are two pools in this hotel, on is a large flat one which is classed as the main pool, and the other is a 5 minute walk away and is closer to the beach and has slides!! The second pool is built on levels so it is actually 4 or 5 pools each one higher than the other by around a metre and linked by a wall which the water constantly flows over, the top pool has the mouth of the three water slides and has a water fall at the back, under the water fall is a Jacuzzi. It was very lush and I could not help feel like we got a lot more than what

we paid for.
We stayed mainly at the slide pools, probably because I am seriously a big kid and I couldn’t help going up and down the slides, we always got a sun bed but I cant help feeling that it probably gets really overcrowded in the summer.
Food
We ate in the hotel every night, obviously because it is free. There was a main restaurant which served breakfast lunch and dinner in the form of a buffet. There was also a fish restaurant, Indian restaurant, Pizzeria and a small pizza guy at the beach bar for mid day snacks if you weren’t hungry enough for the buffet.
Buffet – The buffet was huge and every other night they had it outside which was really lovely. It was a standard buffet really, veg, salad, rice, pasta, meat, desserts and bread. After a few days I was used to the food and got good at judging what to avoid!
I am not a dessert fan, however my boyfriend was in his element, so I going to rate the dessert as good!
Whilst you eat there are waiters coming round taking drink orders and cleaning tables, so the whole place is buzzing all night.
Pizzeria – We didn’t eat in the pizzeria so I cannot rate this however a couple we met up with said that it wasn’t worth going to.
Indian Restaurant – The Indian restaurant was reasonable, I ate it, it was free, so there’s not much I can complain about. I have a stomach of steel, my boyfriend was very ill from the food there the next day so I would not recommend eating there.
Fish Restaurant – Because the Indian made him ill, I wasn’t allowed to make him try the fish, so again I can’t comment.
Drinking the water
Just don’t, i did this in spain once and was ill for around 10 days, there was no way I was risking it in Egypt, so I even brushed my teeth in bottles water! The drinks are not served with ice, so i didn’t have to worry about that and in general I had no problems.
Food Problems
As stated I have a stomach of steel, so although my boyfriend suffered, and this was probably due to the food, I didn’t (might be something to do with the two paracetomal i popped in the dark which turned out to be immodiam) We did meet a few couples who had eaten something dodgy and ended up in bed for a day, I have been told this is unfortunately part of going to Egypt.
Staff
The hotel staff were very friendly, however my main complaint is that they were two friendly, I do not think the Egyptians have learnt the art of leaving people to rest. I was constantly hounded all holiday to join aqua aerobics or offered a massage.
After the first few days I was so annoyed that I nearly lost it with the massage guy. I was lying asleep on the beach topless and he sat on the end of my sun lounger and asked me how long I’d been there. Not appropriate.
The Hauza Beach also has a team of entertainers who are constantly shouting, dancing and in general being far too falsely happy for my comfort, this was the main downer on my holiday. I got sick of being approached, I thought that some of the staffs limited English meant that I couldn’t communicate with them properly and in turn it made them seem as though they were being rude when I knew they wasn’t.
Entertainment
This resort is great for families, as I have stated there were entertainers walking round all day and there were always activities going on. Music was constantly playing throughout the day and the atmosphere was very fun.
I would not recommend this resort to an older couple as there is not many places in which you can relax in peace or without being hassled.
Bad experience
We had a great holiday and the resort really made it however we had one experience which will put me off going to a resort with entertainment again. One of the entertainers convinced us to join an organised part night out in the town on one of our first days; we were really interested in seeing the town so we agreed. We paid 10 pound each and were told to meet at 10pm at reception. At 11.45 we were still waiting for the coach and the whole group had been told the coach would be 5 minutes ever since 10pm. We asked for our money back as it was now getting really late, and the guy suddenly decided that he couldn’t talk any English and we had to argue with him for 10 minutes just to get our money back. I do not think that this is anything to do with the hotel but it did taint our whole experience.
Overall
Overall, for our money I could not believe how well we did, we came back to flowers on our bed every day (the cleaners left them) we felt like we was in paradise and there was free food and drink.
I have never been to such a clean resort, things were constantly getting swept and sprayed and wiped, and it was very impressive. Even the beach was immaculate from litter.
We had shops a ten minute walk away so we could do all of our souvenir shopping without paying for a taxi and it also meant we could get out of the resort.
I enjoyed this holiday to no end, and I would recommend it to any couples on their first holiday together, it’s cheap, easy and friendly and the atmosphere was amazing, however I do not feel like I will revisit the Hauza and I think this will be my last trip to Sharm El Sheikh, it was unfortunately not the peaceful and relaxing break that we were looking for.
I have written this while the resort is fresh in my head, but thisreview can be extended, so any comments you have on other things you'd like to know, just message me x
