Glebe's the place to be

Advantages: Great range of products at reasonable prices
Disadvantages: Only on once a week (Saturdays) and it can get quite busy

Glebe market is the best market in Sydney. But maybe I’m biased - I used to live a 10 minute walk away and spent many a happy Saturday morning there with my Aussie chums. The market is held every Saturday from 9am to 5pm in the grounds of Glebe Public School, about a ten minute bus ride from downtown Sydney, or a ten minute walk from Central Station. It’s a high quality, stylish affair. The stalls are a mixture of new young designers selling unique clothing and jewellery and second-hand connoisseurs selling the creme de la creme of pre-loved clothes. There’s also a smattering of stalls selling Asian jewellery and clothing at very cheap prices. And there are plenty of crafty offerings in the shape of handmade cards, cosmetics and art. The junk stalls selling antiques, old records, books and photographs are ...

Smugglers' haven - Jamaica Inn

Advantages: Experience it in half a day, interesting
Disadvantages: Can be costly

On a cold, grey, wet, blustery morning, the dark building loomed on the peak of Bodmin Moor. It stood isolated and bleak; a true haven for smugglers past. Streams of water fell down our faces despite the hoods and hats. Rain soaked our clothes and the occasionally groaning could be heard as someone stepped into deep puddles or was splashed by passing cars. Thus began our exploration of Jamaica Inn... Jamaica Inn Jamaica Inn was originally built in 1750 as a coaching inn and acted as a staging post for people to change horses for the long journey across the moor. A coach house, stables and a tack room were added to the Inn towards the end of the eighteenth century. It was built at a time of heavy smuggling and, indeed, it has been estimated that around half of the brandy and a quarter of all tea being smuggled into ...

Premier Inn, Charing Cross Glasgow

Advantages: Close to town and all amenities
Disadvantages: none

I have never stayed in the Premier Inn before, but I felt I had to share my experience of the past weekend. The staff in both reception and the restaurant were fantastic, they were really helpful and made you feel right at home. The room and bathroom were both spotless, warm and the freeview television meant that my daughter didn't miss her soaps while she was away. The bed was both big and comfortable and we didn't have any trouble getting to sleep. We opted for the breakfast deal and we were not disappointed, the food was well cooked and warm there was also plenty of choice. Access to the hotel was excellent for both able bodied and non-able bodied people, we didn't have a wheelchair but we did have a six month old baby and a pram, and even though it is situated next to Charing Cross rail station we didn't hear a thing from ...
