My parents were due to stay at the Hempel in a two bedroom suite (£500 /night) this October. They booked their rate in August and received an advance purchase discount.
In the intervening period my stepmother was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. As she would be in treatment in October, and was generally unable to travel they had to cancel their trip.
The Hempel refused to refund the full amount of the stay, refunding only 50%25 and insultingly offered an upgrade on a future stay. This runs against standard practice in the travel industry (read any airline T&Cs)
The staff are incredibly arrogant to deal with and only more so as you work up the chain.
Do not stay here!
