and the Ivy

Advantages: easy to grow
Disadvantages: can take over

And the Ivy Hedera helix ,Ivy well she is seasonal. First a warning , all parts especially berries and young leaves are poisinous if eaten Ivy can be an skin irritant . There are several species the plain green leaved one, and ones like gold heart which has a yellow/gold splash of colour in the centre, Another holly has gold edging to its leaves It flowers september to november, berries are to be found November to the spring Seems to grow in most soils. It is happy in a poor soil. Does not like too much light growing well in shady places The flowers are an insignificent yellow/ green they are very rich in nectar, butterflies and bees love to feed from them . The holly blue caterpillar feeds on its leaves. Birds such as thrushes and black birds love to eat the berries. Ivy is also a good roosting ...

Eating at The Ivy House

Advantages: Value for money - ambience - great food
Disadvantages: out of town so car or taxi required

I had heard the rumours and needed somewhere to take my wife for our anniversary so why not treat ourselves and I am glad we did! The Ivy House was above my every expectation. The menu was clear and well presented in a hardbound cover, the wine list extensive with something for everyone. Although the wine was a touch expensive in comparison to other establishments I didn’t mind when compared to the unbelievable value offered by the main menu. Starters for £3 to £6; Main plates from £8 to ...

The Ivy Chronicles

Advantages: Funny book, made me laugh, light-hearted
Disadvantages: Not the best book I've ever read, topic may not appeal to all

The Ivy Chronicles by Karen Quinn is the story of Ivy Ames a successful woman who has a high powered job, a husband, two lovely daughters and a luxury Park Avenue apartment in New York. Then everything goes wrong in one day and she loses both her job and her cheating husband and shortly afterwards her apartment and all the luxuries she used to take for granted. After helping a friend with her child's private school application Ivy decides to set herself up in a new business adventure as a private school admissions officer. Now in New York (according to this book) getting your child into the right school is everything and parents will stop at nothing to secure a place in the best school for "little Junior." The book is a funny look at the lengths some parents will go to, to get the right school for their child. We meet parents ...
