No one seemed to be getting served and the staff were going up to some tables offering an explanation of what was happening; no-one spoke to our table. We had to speak to fellow would be diners as to what was going on - there was no chef and the managment were not trained to deal with the delivery of food!!!! Ended up leaving after a 2 hour wait with no food. Spoiled the whole day - extremly poor.
Advantages: Great Ales and locaton Disadvantages: Easy to get lost once inside
...It is situated just off the Worsley junction off the M60 motorway. The car park is fairly large and can fit most vehicles.
When i first went inside the pub i thought it was a perfect pub, just to sit and have a quiet drink, business conference etc...
I made my way to the bar and to my enjoyment they served a selection of guest ales!! As well as the other usual pub drinks and a selection of bar snacks.
For anybody who likes guest ales, they have ... ...in a litle area somewhere. The chairs were really comfy and the area was nice and clean. The staff took care of the place and kept on top of the cleaning and upkeep. There was also a group of business men next to us having a meeting. Luckilly i was wearing shirt, jeans and nicely polished shoes (quite smart but casual) otherwise i felt i wouldnt really fit in with the clientele.
I didnt have to wait too long to get served again as it was only a ...

Advantages: Friendly staff Disadvantages: The 'food'
...girlfriend and I went to the John Gilbert to enjoy a nice sunday lunch. The building looked nice enough, just a typical chain pub and the staff were very friendly. Afrter ordering a drink we decided to go for the carvery. Unfortunately for us, what passed for food was without doubt the worst meal I have ever had the displeasure of eating. I had a slice of gammon, which was fatty and full of water, and a slice of bone-dry turkey. The veg all tasted ... ...the brocolli was yellow and had clearly been boiled for so long it leacked any nutritional value, and the carrots were were over-cooked and had no taste to them yet were really hard- I'm quite impressed that that is possible!! To be fair the roast potatoes were quite nice but any pleasure derived from this soon evaporated when faced with the solid brown boiled potatoes and the inedible stuffing. The pièce de résistance came in the form of the most ...

Quick review of The John Gilbert
Went for a pre booked xmas meal 25/12/08. Initally delayed for 1 hour then established chef had fallen out with management and abondoned everyone in the premises.
Place in a total mess. No leadership. No advice to customer unless you demanded to know what the situation was.
The chef should be identified to ensure no other pub or restaurant employs him. Saw two members of staff in tears as customers vented their anger at the way they had been treated. Albeit it was not the waiter/s fault.
An absolute fiasco leaving me and my family gutted. Needless to say I will not be frequenting the John Gilbert until drastic changes have been made. NOT RECOMMENDED ...

of the most prominent architects of the time, Sir George Gilbert Scott. Following its opening in 1858 it was described by the famous English poet, Sir John Betjeman as "Victorian Gothic at its very best". Scott designed several other parish churches, including some others quite close to here, but of them all this is the most Cathedral like, with a square bell tower that rises to almost 40 metres above the ground.
The clock on the tower was designed by Dent, who is perhaps most famous for designing the clock of the Palace of Westminster in London that is now more commonly referred to as "Big Ben".
One of the main treasures from the interior of the church was an example of a Harris organ dating from 1740. This was the second largest example of its kind in England, second only to that at York Minster but it was sadly damaged by the fire of 1853 ...

There is an area within the Village that is referred to by the locals as the "Castle." Whilst there is nothing here now other than open land it is thought that a large Manor House owned by the Earl of Shrewsbury once occupied this spot. It is also thought that the name "Castle" may have remained in local folklore and could refer to some kind of fortification that may have stood here.
There is a letter held in the Sheffield Archives written by Gilbert, the Earl of Shrewsbury to his Brother in law, John Manners. This letter is dated 17th August 1587 and proves that the Earl certainly spent some time in Bolsterstone. In this letter he writes, "I have come here to Bolsterstone to try to see if a change of air will ease my gout".
Also held in the Sheffield Archives is a letter from Captain Adam Eyre, a prominent Gentleman, from 1627. In ...
