The Kebab House, Liverpool

If you ever happen to visit the fine City of Liverpool, or you are fortunate to live there yourself, then I can recommend no better eating place than the Kebab House. Situated on Hardman street near the City centre, the restaurant is just round the corner from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. This then makes it a great place to have a meal if you are going, or have been to see a concert (something I do a lot). The Kebab House is an interesting restaurant whose name doesn't exactly conjure up the correct image. Its actually more like two restaurants in one. Upstairs is a reasonable smart area which can seat a large number of small parties but down stairs is a large room with pillars and arches and generally decorated like a typical Greek taverna. This area is used to cater for large parties and if you check when booking will also include live entertainment. Having read good reviews, we ate here on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was good (chavvy, though), and food okay (nothing to shout about). The restaurant was busy, but no excuse for missing around half dishes on the menu - the waitress had to return five times before she could find a list of food we all wanted which they had. Took over an hour to get starters - no apologies, bread or olives in the meantime! Then either the wrong food/no food arrived, and meat for the vegetarian! Worst of all, when we complained, the staff became aggressive, rude and threatening - accused us of being bad ... more
