Languishing in the lovely Lanes

Advantages: friendly service, great location
Disadvantages: wee bit overpriced for level of facilities

I visited Brighton for the first time recently to celebrate Duskman's 30th birthday and I can report I had a fabulous time. Many factors contributed to it being brilliant but a large part of the experience can be attributed to our stay at The Lanes Hotel , a lovely little family run hotel located not in the historic Lanes area of the town as the name implies but on Marine Parade facing the seafront at Brighton.

I must confess the Lanes ...
...took two night bookings at the weekend in spring and summer. It was time for a rethink and to look for more modest accommodation as two nights at a boutique hotel would be well over our budget. After rejecting anything way out of town, anything that did not have good reviews on an independent travel website (I did not an to be stock in a glorified dosshouse) and any bland faceless Premier Holiday Lodges we were left with two options. The first one ... more

The Royal Albion Hotel, Brighton

Advantages: great location, cheap, nice rooms, excellent food
Disadvantages: no parking, quite dated

of us which was a bit cheeky. The ideal location of the hotel meant we could nip out into Brighton town centre whenever we wanted to do a spot of shopping in the famous 'Brighton lanes' or to grab a bite to eat from one of the many restaurants scattered about. We had not paid for dinner at the hotel and so ate at a restaurant called Fat Leo's in the evening which offered good Italian food for a decent price. After dinner we returned to the hotel at about half past nine and had a few drinks in the hotels Pavilion Bar which offered a wide range of drinks at a reasonable price. The next morning we woke up early and went down for breakfast in Jenny's Restaurant, a full English breakfast was available and a number of different fruit juices including tea and coffee. The breakfast was lovely and the hotel staff bright and cheery, delivering ...

Great base in Brighton

Advantages: Location, price
Disadvantages: Parking, needs updating

on the outside. The location of this hotel is right opposite the main pier on the roundabout, so you just have stroll across the street to the pier and about a 10 minute walk to the shops, Lanes and Pavilion. We knew in advance from walking past (and most hotels in Brighton have no parking) that there was no car park, so we rang up and asked them if they had an agreement with any of the NCP's. They did with the Russell Road NCP which is a good 10 minute walk away, but only £9 for 24 hour so this is good value. They give you a ticket when you check out that you insert after your original one, so when we put our 1st ticket in the machine wanted £45 but after the second one only £21, which is a great saving. There are a few pay & display parking spaces outside but it is £6 for 2 hours, so very pricey. We arrived at the hotel at 3pm and there ...

Review of Royal Albion Hotel, Brighton

The Brighton Lanes ROCK.

Advantages: Too many...London by the sea...cosmopolitan, diverse, shopping! Food!
Disadvantages: Can be dirty - very busy in summer with exchange students under your feet.

seems to have a theme so if your looking for spit n sawdust or genteel elegance there will be a public house to suit your taste. If you have never been to Brighton then you are really missing out on the 9th wonder of the world :) Its the most diverse and exciting town i the world! Whether your taking your Nan for a seaside stroll or booking a dirty weekend with the mistress you will adore Brightons Lanes. Only 5 minutes ifrom Hotels and the Pier, you can shop and eat rock in minutes. ...
