Botanical Birmingham

Advantages: Plenty to see, a relaxing escape from the city.
Disadvantages: Expensive for a one-off visit. Disappointing restaurant.

Every city need its green spaces. The architecture may be spectacular and the shops fantastic, but finding a place to escape the traffic and bustle is a necessity for most city dwellers. Picture Birmingham and what do you see? The Bullring, New Street Station and Spaghetti Junction would be the first things that come to my mind. Although I've never lived in Birmingham itself, I worked there for several years. During that time I went to the Botanical Gardens regularly, but for the purposes of this review I will focus on my most recent visit which was August 2008. A Brief History Celebrity gardeners are not a new phenomenon. In the nineteenth century J.C Loudon was an influential writer on gardening and became part of London's high society. He designed the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in 1830 to provide a place where keen ...

Give Castle Lodge the Dodge

Advantages: A historical building
Disadvantages: disappointing and spoilt by the owners

Town. Address for your sat nav is ? Castle Lodge Castle Square Ludlow Shropshire Don?t know the post code, so use the one for Ludlow Castle - SY8 1AX Ludlow is off the A49, if you look out for the park and ride car park there is a frequent bus service that picks you up and drops you in the Castle Square, which is where you will find the lodge and Ludlow Castle. If you travel from the Birmingham area you need to go west on the A456 through Kidderminster. If you come from the M5 then leave it at Junction 3 and follow the A456 through Kidderminster. There is also a train service that frequently visits Ludlow. ~~ Conclusion ~~ I do understand that this property has been the cause of some bitterness from previous owners as they have tried to maintain it and open it up to the public, without any help from ...

I'll Keep going Inn

Advantages: Cleanliness, price, room, parking, food, everything
Disadvantages: None

's not 72 hours before booking, so technically I could have checked they weren't charging a grand a night. When deciding which Lodge to stay in (there's a lot to choose from in Birmingham) I deliberately chose the one nearest to the NEC - saves on valuable fuel. The internet site was so easy to use - I chose the dates, booked it, printed off the thing, gave the thing to mother as proof, and done - you pay on arrival so that was that. The day of our holiday arrived and after travelling for 3 hours with mother talking to Thomas (GPS man) we found the Lodge really easily seeing as it was located on the main road with a massive sign attached to the outside. We parked in the ample car park on site which was locked after midnight and a code was needed should you want to get out - mother was particularly impressed and accidentally on purpose left ...
