I had seen the Lowry in the papers many times - the Man City players had a Christmas party there and David Beckham stays there when he is in Manchester. And not suprising as it is the only 5* hotel in Manchester.

I am never going to be able to afford to live like a celebrity so when work offered me a week at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester I jumped at the chance.

Car Park: There is a specific built car park for the hotel with barrier that requires a coin from the reception to get out to ensure no one else parks there. It is quite expensive (£12 per day)
Checking In: As I dragged my suitcase along the car park the concierge was quick to send someone out to help me he was warm and helpful and pointed me in the direction of the beautifully modern reception desk. As I entered the glass fronted building the marble floor and funkily lit area had stairs heading towards the bar and restaurant, the desk on the left and the lifts to the room on the right. The process was quick and easy to sign in and I was shown to my room personally.
The room: The room was massive. As I got off the lift on my floor there was a huge lobby area with sofas and flowers. My room was not far off this. As I swiped my card in the thick wood door to get in I was greeted my a huge, softly lit area. A walk in wardobe to my left, a marble bathroom to my right and a large bedroom/ living area in front of me.
The huge windows at the end of the room looked out over the river and Manchester. The view was gorgeous.
The sleeping/ living area was incredibly spacious. Too spacious for me on my own. There was a sitting area to enjoy the view, and a desk with fax/ wifi connection for those wanting to work. The bed was so big it could have fit about 8 people in it. It was huge!
The restaurant: The restaurant was beautiful, and considering the exclusive nature of the hotel was reasonably priced. It had a variety of gastronomic delights and simple foods and the deserts are delicious.
The bar: Unlike the restaurant the bar was not so reasonably priced. A couple of glasses of wine set me back £10. It was a relaxing and modern environment.
The facilities: There is a spa facility included in the hotel including a gym and treatment rooms. The room service includes champagne and strawberries of you are planning a romantic night in
Price: The hotel adds up to around £250 per night. You will receive absolute luxury for this though.
Overall: I can not speak highly enough about this hotel. It was a lovely break. When I was there Madonna was performing at her Manchester leg of her tour and although I didn't see the lady herself I got to share a lift with a load of her bags!
I went out one night in Manchester and the staff could not have been nicer to me. Despite me arriving back at 3am and being sick all over the steps (whoops - got a nice £50 fine for that) I was escorted up to my room and they arranged a wake up call and a taxi for me so I didn't have to drive the next morning.
This is a beautifully set hotel and if you are a celeb spotter you should definitely go. It is rammed with beautiful stars.
Obviously £250 is a little bit steep but if you are planning a special night out in Manchester (or like me someone else was paying) I would definitely recommend this. Close to the train station and main shopping areas this is in the heart of Manchester.

Advantages: Rub shoulders with the stars, superior service Disadvantages: Pricey, but totally worth it !, plus you have to pay for car parking £10 per night
The Lowry Hotel is the only 5 star hotel in Manchester, and Wow. The whole place is just fantastic, I went on a paid for work do and have saved up to go back twice since. The rooms start from about £180 per night for room only, and breakfast is on top, they do deals however if you ring them or go on the website. The rooms themselves are spacious and minimal furnishings, very smart, with enormous beds, and gorgous views, The whole experience is pure ... ...I don't !)
As it's the only 5 star hotel, all the footballers playing at the Trafford, and any groups playing in Manchester stay here, I saw the moody Pink at the bar, and him from cold feet, shame Justin, and Kylie both stayed here when they toured. The bar serves fantastic Champagne cocktails, as a Jazz singer plays on the piano, the restaraunt is superb, and I even saw Gordon Ramsea, shooing waiters around the place. The Marco Pierre White restarant ...

Advantages: Superb service, rooms & facilities - a great hotel Disadvantages: None
I'm the first to admit that I've got champagne tastes with a brown ale income! But sometimes you have to save up and splash out for that little bit of luxury.
And so it was when me and my partner decided to head up to Manchester to see a concert in the city.
We thought we'd do it in style and, after a four-hour trek up the motorway, arrived at the magnificent Lowry hotel - the only five-star hotel in the city.
The doorman was wearing a top hap ... ...the glass doors.
A good start.
Inside, the reception area is clean and polished, with tasteful artefacts and ornaments dotted around and very helpful staff behind the reception desk.
We were offered help with our luggage, which we declined, and made our way to our room.
And it was fantastic.
Beautifully designed furniture, an enormous double bed, classy bathroom, extensive free refreshments - and a beautiful view over the river to the back of ...

Advantages: Excellent Facilities, Brilliant Location, Helpful Staff Disadvantages: Not for someone who isn't prepared to spend a lot of money
The Lowry Hotel is in my opinion the best hotel ever. Built only a couple of years ago, it offers fantastic facilities in a bright modern building with fantastic design. The hotel is situated in Manchesters deansgate district, and although located officially in Salford it is a short walk over the river Irwell to the bright lights of Manchester.
The hotel is owned by Rocco Forte Hotels and all of the design is overseen by Olga Polizzi (Sir Rocco's ... ...interesting sculptures and artwork around the building (especially the statue of LS Lowry in the lobby. Advantages: Cental location, friendly service, individualistic Disadvantages: A little cramped, grubby carpets, a little inflexible on breakfast times
I travel a lot with work and it's a trifle sad but I have become blasé regarding the same luxury hotel chains-Renaissance, Holiday Inn, Hilton etc
It was nice to stay at a boutique hotel for once-and one right slap bang in the middle of Newcastle city centre. Prestige Events Magazine voted it the 4th coolest boutique hotel in the UK last year. The Lowry in Manchester (I love it) was number 10. It's a cute little hotel with a mere 49 bedrooms. I'm not sure why we stay here rather than one of the hotel chains but I am not complaining! Apparently it used to be a bank. It's also Newcastle's first pet friendly hotel. I travelled with my dear deceased little dog in the past and we both enjoyed dog friendly hotels.
First impressions:
You could almost miss the hotel, as it's very discreet. And small! As soon as you walk through the door ...
Advantages: Location. New and modern Disadvantages: Awful club level package. Decor not to everyones taste.
the club lounge. As I say, don?t stay on the club level!
Check out
After our two day stay was completed we returned to the desk to check out. The clerk was efficient and sent us on our way. There was nothing warm about this transaction and there was no encouragement to return. Which was sad to see considering I was served by the operations manager according to his name badge!
Summary
Crowne Plaza is an excellent hotel chain, however in this situation it really didn?t live up to the expectation. I imagine if I had booked a normal room I may have been impressed but as it was, the club room left me feeling let down.
The hotel?s location and facilities are good and avoid the club room you will have a good stay. If you want real luxury then look to the Lowry or Hilton. They are Manchester?s REAL luxury hotels!
Stay completed July 2009 ...
Advantages: Good price hotel in a good location. Disadvantages: Not a luxury hotel!
Last weekend we got tickets to see Rick Astley play at the Lowry Theatre in Salford Quays, near Manchester. Last year we did the same and stayed in a hotel near to the theatre. This was convenient in terms of getting to and from the Lowry Centre, but the downside was that there was little else for us to do before the concert. This year we decided to stay in the centre of Manchester and get the tram to the concert. We marked out a few decent pubs on the map and had a quick shufty on the old t'internet for a hotel in the vicinity. The watchwords were cheap, central and hopefully cheerful ~ the emphasis being on CHEAP!
~~~WHERE DID WE PICK?
We looked on the Travelodge website and found a hotel called the Manchester Central. That seemed to meet the "central" criteria! There was also an offer for £26 per night per room. That ...
