Advantages: Spectacular Stalagmites & Stalactities Disadvantages: not for the claustrophobic or those afraid of small boats!
The Dirou caves are 6km down the coast from the village of Areopolis, on the Mani peninsular of the Peloponnese. There are daily buses from Areopolis, Gythio and Sparta - but check the timetables as there are only 2-3 each day.
The caves were discovered some years ago and opened to the public in the 70s, although much of the cave network, which is believed to cover around 70km, is yet to be explored and is thought to possibly go all the way up to ... ...is a river running through the caves, and visitors explore by small boat, which is steered by a local guide - life jackets are provided. (Make sure you check re the language spoken, as some guides speak only Greek). There is a huge network of caverns, each with roof and walls covered in spectacular stalagmite formations. For those with an active imagination, faces and figures can be seen in the many formations along the way. In some places the roof ...

Advantages: Beaches, tavernas, bars, scenery... Disadvantages: Accommodation can be rather basic
...Stoupa this year, arranged through the London travel agency Greek Options. It was the first time we had visited anywhere on the Greek mainland, though we have been to a number of the islands. We were very impressed. Stoupa boasts a good range of bars and tavernas, but has not (yet) been over-commercialised. There are also some good craft shops selling locally produced items far superior to the usual tourist tat. The sandy beaches (especially Kalogria ... ...Stoupa is definitely the place to come. The only slight drawback, which anyone who has been to Greece before will know about,is Greek plumbing! Accommodation can also be rather basic, and I'd advise paying a little extra to be sure of at least a few home comforts during your stay. ...

Greece and its many islands is THE perfect place for a fabulous holiday.
I speak from experience as I have visited corfu(twice),rhodes, zante(twice)and the peloponees although I have been to many other european destinations Greece always draws me back.
I suppose it depends on what you are looking for from your week or two in the sun.I personally like to unwind put my feet up and forget about the world for a couple of weeks every year.
You dont need to be wealthy as for little more than £200 each is all youll need to pay on a late deal leaving you loads of money over for eating and drinking well while you are in paradise
Choose one of the many small specialist tour operators who deal just with greece as they always seem to have the best villas and apartments and are the most reasonable on price.
I always choose somewhere ...

Advantages: Friendly, peaceful, scenic, excellent value Disadvantages: Might be a bit too quiet for teenagers etc.
I've been to Kefalonia three times, most recently in 1999, and have booked again for 2001. My partner Jayne and I have been to various other Greek islands, but Kefalonia is our favourite and the one we keep going back to. We stay in a resort called Lourdas, on the south-west of the island, and I recommend this for anyone wanting a peaceful, tranquil beach holiday. Unlike many other parts of Greece Lourdas has not been spoiled by over-development, and the people are friendly and welcoming. There are some wonderful tavernas where you can watch the sun go down over a glass of retsina, and Adonis's bar, where you can enjoy a cocktail before your meal or an ice cream afterwards. And if the taverna of choice is a little way from your hotel or apartment, most of the taverna owners will give you a lift back at the end of the evening. That's what ...

The Choice...
My partner and I have been travelling to Greece for many years and spend cold winter evenings browsing brochures religiously for a new place to visit. On one particular evening we decided on the charming fishing village of Elounda in North Eastern Crete and settled on the Tasmania Village as our choice of accommodation, which we booked through Kosmar as a package at just under £700 for 2 weeks during peak season.
The Location....
After landing in Heraklion we travelled by coach for approximately 2 hours travelling along the main coast road when we finally snaked over the precarious hill from Agios Nicholas down into the village of Elounda, past the village square - which is lined with an array of tavernas, bars and shops and the harbour where fishing boats and caiques advertising trips to the nearby Island ...
