Advantages: Lots of history Disadvantages: Mainly ruins
The ManorCastle lies approximately two miles to the south east of Sheffield City Centre. Today there are only ruins that now remain of this once magnificent Castle that was built in 1510. It achieved its greatest fame as the place where Mary, Queen of Scots was held captive for a period that spanned 14 years, except a few short breaks in Derbyshire at Buxton, Chatsworth House and the nearby Sheffield Castle.
The ruins of ManorCastle now occupy a patch of land in the middle of a Housing Estate that takes its name from this Building. It is called the ManorHousing Estate. ManorCastle is sometimes referred to as Sheffield Manor or the Manor Lodge.
It originally stood within the Grounds of a vast Deer Park on land that formed part of the Estate of the 4th Earl of Shrewsbury. Remnants of this Park are now known as the Norfolk ...
Niddry CastleGolfClub is a 9 hole course at Castle Road, Winchburgh, West Lothian, which is approximately 10 miles from the centre of Edinburgh and 45 miles from Glasgow. It is a parkland course playing around Niddry Castle with an 18 Hole length of 5518yds (Par 70)(4612yds Par 68 Ladies). It is fairly tight in places with water coming into play on 5 of the 9 holes. Niddry Castle itself dates from 1490 and it is known that Mary Queen of Scots sought refuge there in 1568. It is not an attractive building but it has recently been restored as a private residence and is not open to the public.
The golf course dates from around the time of the Second World War but lay dormant until the present club were formed in 1983.

Advantages: Great hotels, and facilities Disadvantages: EXPENSIVE!!!

She had a point, i am only 21, I can?t drive and i am not rich in any way shape or form. Despite this I really needed a break from reality. The Christmas bonus had just been deposited into my bank account so I thought of the closest 4 star I could think of. "We are going to that big hotel on the Wroxham Road" said I not knowing the name at the time.
So off we went, as we pulled down the seemingly endless drive from the main road I thought gosh this looks different to any hotel I had ever stayed in (i am more used to forte pothouses or similar!!). It was an impressive country manor type building with a beautiful fountain in the front courtyard. I ...
