Food choices vary from bistro type food in the bar and on room service to excellent sushi in the very popular Nobu Restaurant (bookings required). The Metropolitan is probably best known for the Met Bar where the hip crowd hang out. It is members only, and a room usually gives you temporary membership rights, but this is not guaranteed. It does depend on who is in the bar and how happening you are deemed to be by the impossibly beautiful hotel staff, who are clad in designer uniforms. The bar can get very noisy at weekends, and you will notice it unless you are on the fifth floor up.
Overall the Metropolitan is very expensive, and unless you need to stay somewhere so cool it hurts then save your cash and sleep elsewhere.
Advantages: Unbelievably luxurious Disadvantages: Probably won't be able to tolerate a 2 star hotel again
Background
On the 31st August 2009, my wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary which is no mean feat. In celebration of this milestone I decided to take the lovely Mrs L away to London for a short, luxurious break in one of London's classiest hotels. Being short on cash I looked around for what was available with my Airmiles fund and with the aid of my six and eight year old sons we decided Mrs L would probably like the Metropolitan.
Overview & Appearance
Nestled next to the concrete monstrosity that is the Hilton on Park Lane and overlooking Hyde Park is a much smaller (only ten floors!) building containing both trendy nightspot the Met Bar and the Michelin-starred Nobu restaurant in addition to 153 guest rooms and suites. Although rather simple looking from the outside, upon entering through the rotating ...
Advantages: Near SadlersWells and West End Disadvantages: Not many. Had to wait a short while for a table.
After a day at the LondonMetropolitan Archives I wandered down Exmouth Market and found The Ambassador Restaurant
I was drawn in because it looked buzzy.
The food was great. A first I thought the portions were a little small, - but believe me they had got it right.
I had fresh fish and then chocolate pudding! It must have been made then and there and oozed chocolate and arrived with in house ice cream.
I was impressed by the friendly staff especially at the bar. If you go you must try the rhubarb sherbet cocktail, created by the lovely Bar Manager!
Also the toilets were spotless. How many times times have I been to a nice restaurant and then felt the loos had been neglected!
In my opinion, it was good value for money and have decided to return there with friends in the near future. ...
Advantages: well presented Food, and so on Disadvantages: five star prices
chez gerard St John's Wood
The Restaurant is part of the chez gerard group that has a high reputation in fine dining. It has been around for around twenty odd years and upon a day in July I visited this Restaurant.
getting There
I fancied going out on a hot summers day in London in July, and it took me around forty minutes getting there on the Metropolitan tube line. The Restaurant itself is a short walk away from the Train Station. The Restaurant is located in a reasonably quiet shopping road. During my visit there was a boots the chemist shop located opposite the Restaurant and a rival Restaurant next to the chez gerard outlet.
first impressions
Upon entry I knew I was going into an expensive Restaurant and the first view of the Restaurant confirmed my initial thoughts. Outside the Restaurant was a Clean ...
