The only problem I have ever found with this place is that the food is cooked on a such a hot surface that it always tends to be a bit chargrilled. No matter how much liquid you have in your bowl, it all evaporates pretty quickly. The final dish is always tasty but can be a little on the ... Read review

For £10, you can go up to the food area as often as you like for two hours. Going up to get your food is when it starts to get more interesting. A whole table of ingredients is laid out, with everything from meat and various vegetables to spices and sauces. Basically, you fill your bowl up with whatever you want and pass it to the chef who then cooks it up in front of you on an extremely hot skillet. A number of recipes are tacked up on the wall above the ingredients and it is useful to follow this advice. Trying to pull together your own "unique` recipe from the bewildering array of ingredients normally only ends in disappointment. Advantages: Select your own fresh ingedients. Cooked before your eyes. Great value and good fun Disadvantages: Food is a bit greasy and building could do with air-conditioning
and prawn crackers. These had obviously not been cooked to order and so had that kind of chewy consistency that such things develop when they have been sitting around for a while. However, they were perfectly adequate.
Then onto the fun bit - the trip up to the wok?. The Mongolian wok is an enormous cooking plate, approximately 2m in diameter, which is manned by two totally humourless chefs. The aim of the exercise is to grab a bowl and assemble your own meal from the array of fresh ingredients that are laid out in a kind of Pizza Hut salad-bar kind of way. You can mix and match chicken, lamb, beef, fish and squid with all kinds of sauces, spices, fresh vegetables noodles and then simply hand your creation to one of the chefs who will throw it on the wok and cook the lot before your very eyes. Advantages: Interesting novelty Disadvantages: Not really worth it / Not really traditional mongolian dishes like i expected
& not been marinaded & i find that certain ingredients like the tofu soaked it all up so be warned...
We only had chinese tea to drink which was so strong it was like coffee.
The staff were very helpful in explaining the procedure & readily refilled out tea.
The place seemed more like a western saloon bar than mongolian but then i think there might be a difficulty in making it authentic mongolian decor. But the point is the place was really dim & not much had been spent on the decor.
Overall i'd say the place was ok but i wouldn't go back again. A chinese take away would have been more satisfying & economic. But i guess it was an experience. I will still be looking out for somewhere that i can sample some authentic mongolian dishes.... ...

enough to get to from the pub, just walk outside, hail a cab, get in and you are halfway there.
However Indian food is not the only dish on the menu. There are many other foreign dishes on the menu. Hurst Street and Station Street have some fantastic Chinese restaurants as well as Spanish/Italian and Greek.
Try the MongolianBar (0121 236 3842), and the Jam House, which not only offers a range of food from around the world, but also plays host to live music. Both are five minutes away from New Street. ...
