...we had read some of the reviews before traveling 3 hours and booking a hotel especially to go here! We had been passing by and ha a lunch time drink here some time ago, it looks fantastic and we swore that we would return for a meal. It was our anniversary so I thought we would have a treat, book a hotel and travel the 3 hours to the Mussel & Crab.

My started was good - a potted duo - but my husbands so called king scallops were very disappointing as another reviewer has pointed out. When we ordered our main course - lobster thermadore for my husband and monkfish on mash for myself - I was surprised to be asked if I wanted chips or new potatoes - mine supposedly came with mash, why would I want yet more potatoes! I asked if I could have a salad instead and was told I would have to pay £2.95 for it! My husband decided he wouldn't mind some chips and some new potatoes so we ordered one of each. Neither the monkfish nor the lobster were at all impressive and with mash, chips and new potatoes it felt like the whole meal was just a plate of spuds!! With no dessert and a bill of almost £90 I mentioned my disappointment as we left just to be told "that's the way we do it". ...great restaurant, a freind reccommended the place to me who eats out quite often. So my wife and I decided to go there for her birthday as soon as we pulled into the car park the place looked great people were outside eating and drinking enjoying the views, it had a real mederterainian feel to it. Upon walking into the bar area we were greeted by the owner Bruce who was really friendly and guided us through the vast array of seafood and meat dishes ... ...shown to our table in the apptly named medeterainian room. The starters arrived shortly after we were sat I had the tiger prawns in white wine garlic tomatoes and parsley delicious, my wife had a seafood tower crab meat, prawns avocado etc all combined in a seafood sauce looked amazing. To follow we had the whole dover sole and the duo of fish both cooked to perfection and well presented. I would reccommend this restaurant to anyone who loves seafood ...

My self and seven other members of my family ate at the mussel and crab last saturday for the first time .The service was excellent ,the choice of sea food was vast ,the starters and mains wonderful ( my crab thermador was to salty ) but sadly to say the puddings were terrible one had to be sent back (raspberry tart) we did ask before if they were homemade the waitress told us they were made off the premises but brought in fresh daily .They were tastless,with that factory made texture .what a shame after such a excellent meal .......so please change your supplier or better still make your own ! ...

Advantages: A fine cuisine restaurant with an unusual decorative touch - splendid! throughout Disadvantages: sometimes you have to wait a little longer for your table - but well worth it
The Mussel and Crab at Tuxford is a charming little restaurant in the heart of Nottinghamshire not far from "Robin Hood Country" in Tuxford.
Set on Sibthorpe Hill, the restaurant offers large car parking facilities and you will be delighted when you open the door on this gem of a restaurant.
The ambience is delightful, check out the wooden "hands" which you can relax in when deciding upon your meal. The decor is really original, boasting tropical ... ...seats!
The proprietors Bruce and Alison will ensure they do all they can to make your meal here a memorable one. Primarily specialising in freshly caught fish (the choice is humungous) to the most fantastic steaks.
The fillet steak medium is a real treat, try it. Also the fish is wonderful - I had salmon in a champagne and mushroom sauce - wonderful.
The dessert menu offers a wide range of desserts, you won't be disappointed. I implore you to ...

Advantages: Seafood can be hard to find Disadvantages: over promises and under delivers
Having read the other review of this restaurant I booked a table of six for dinner. We were kept in the bar for half an hour before being shown to a table. The place wasn't busy so I expect that is standard procedure. During this time you can look at the many blackboards around the bar area which contain the menu. I was seduced by promises of extra plump Cornish mussels, but these turned out to be rather poor.
There is a good selection of fish on ... ...had fish though, but between the owner who took the order and the kitchen some misunderstanding occurred and four of the six orders were wrongly prepared. There followed hurried replacement of those dishes. The dishes finally served were tasty but insubstantial, though there was an abundance of chips and peas. The veg were overcooked. Sadly there was no real apology from anyone, so I guess the staff didn't think it was their fault and the owner was ...
