If anyone ever thought that museums are boring then there would be one place I would send them to. That place would be the Natural History Museum in South Kensington, London. I recently went to London for a weekend to go sightseeing and this place was top of my list of priorities. Back when I was a small child my dad took me to this museum, however except for seeing all the amazing things I never took much in, however now I am old enough to read I was astounded at the origin of the fossils and exhibits I was looking at.
Not living in London I imagined it would be hard to find this museum. But with a trusty A to Z I found where it was and got the tube. It has it’s own tube exit, which leads you practically to the front door of the museum. Excellent, if like me, you don’t know where you are going. I was also amazed and pleased to discover that the museum is now free to enter for everyone. I feel that learning should be free. However this also means hat the museum attracts a lot of people so I suggest you go during the week. Also the museum opens at 11.00am everyday so, especially in the winter, it’s best to go a bit later in the day to avoid the large queues in the morning.
The museum proudly holds the most amazing, in my opinion, entrance view. The ground floor, as you walk in looks like the museum in Jurassic Park with a gigantic dinosaur staring you in the face as you walk through the door. To the left and right of this spectacular display are small coves containing other prehistoric creatures and formations. There are numerous touch-screens in the coves, which tell you, in a number of languages, what it is you are looking at in more detail than the plaques next to the exhibits do. The museum is beautifully laid out and everything is easy to see.
There are also a number of things to get involved with. I particularly like the models of skin and teeth (obviously not the real things) that you can touch to get a feel of what they would have actually felt like. Not many museums offer such a wide range of interaction as this. There are a lot of learning games where you guess what year things happened and the displays in the dinosaur section contain just enough information for you to learn without feeling like you are back at school again.
This brings me to the dinosaur section, which I believe has to be everyone’s favourite. Everywhere you turn there is another gigantic dinosaur in your face and I really suggest you visit the Tyrannosaurus Rex because you will never see anything like it again. The animal section is another great place to visit with models of animals in real size. If you think an elephant is big then go to see that! Again there are a lot of things to interact with here as well. Also a weighing machine that will make anyone feel like a feather.
There are a lot of other things to see. Upstairs there is a plant section and an evolution section, both of which are very interesting. There is also a Charles Darwin section that explains his theory of selective breeding and evolution. Everywhere you go there are people who work there who are ready to help if you need anything, they also have maps to give out for free so definitely take one because hey help you find where you want to go. There is a very large gift shop as well where you can buy souvenirs or books about history. There is also a restaurant/café, which is very reasonable for a museum, and it serves hot and cold food. Toilets are easy to locate with the map and each section is signposted. The museum is very child friendly and has a lot of facilities for people with babies and children.
Altogether the Natural History Museum is well worth a visit, even if just to look about for half an hour. Now that it’s free it’s definitely worth going and I guarantee you will never want to go to another museum again.

My parents took my siter and me there loads of times when we were small, it's a magical place for kids - and adults love it too. Great opinion, thanks.

I love the natural history museum but usually spend a day there and include a visit to the science museum and the geological museum which are practically next door! :o)
