A Typical Small Dutch Hotel
Advantages: Reasonable cost, attractive architecture
Disadvantages: Service could have been better
...de Draak operated under the Mercure name. Like the town the hotel is old and it occupies a good position in the corner of the main square the Grote Markt. Parking is available either outside the hotel in the square of for Nfl 14.50 a night they have a private secure parking area nearby. The hotel has only 34 rooms but they are spread on 6 floors. There is a lift which is also very old but seemed up to the job each time I used it. The building itself ...
...seen in the Netherlands. It all seemed quaintly untouched by time with old beams and doors and chandeliers. Sadly some of the furniture was old not in the sense of keeping with the ambience of the place but looked like the remnants of a 1970s makeover. I did get the sense that this was a hotel with a phenomenal amount of potential which was nowhere near achieving it.
The rooms were a little disappointing being dark and not decorated for some time. ...

Advantages: Pleasant and peaceful

...surprisingly easy to find the NH Hotel Koningshof Veldhoven. As the name implies, it's situated in the town of Veldhoven, next to the Eindhoven ring road, but it doesn't have direct access. That's not a problem though. As soon as you leave the A2 motorway at the Veldhoven exit, you follow the sign for Koningshof. Follow an arrow-straight road for a mile or so and you can't miss it.
It's around 15 km from Eindhoven city centre, and a similar distance ...
...and renovated in 1999) is a sprawling complex of several two and three-storey buildings set in 79 acres of forested landscape. Its main purpose seems to be as a conference centre (in fact, it has 100 meeting rooms), but with 538 bedrooms they were somehow able to squeeze a couple of non-conference types in.
Parking for a hotel which is spread over such a large area means that it can be quite a distance from your room to where you're parked...in ...

Zand Castl...um, Palace
Advantages: Great view, great location
Disadvantages: Horrible building
It's hard to miss the Best Western Palace in Zandvoort, its 20-odd floors rise above the town like a monolithic concrete slab (which it is) and dominates the coastline for miles around. That and the fact it's well signposted.
Zandvoort lies a few miles north of Amsterdam on the windswept North Sea coast of Holland. It's not a large place anyway, but the hotel completely dwarfs almost everything else in the town.
It's 150m from the train station ...
...and the casino, and 900m from the racetrack. Schilpol airport is 25km distant, Haarlem 5km and The Hague is 45km away.
Zandvoort is a prime holiday resort and has all the infrastructure associated with that function. There are countless restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and some excellent shopping. Best Western NIEUWVLIET-BAD ---------- GOOD
Advantages: Resort hotel, close to beach
Disadvantages: No sea view
Ahhh.... that brisk sea air, what better way to blow those dusty old cobwebs away.
Location
Nieuwvliet-bad is a small resort on the North sea coast of Zeeland in the extreme South-west of the Netherlands.
The hotel is situated in a quiet peaceful location only around 100m or so from the beach.
The hotel has a total of 35 rooms:
12 Standard rooms, 14 standard rooms with balcony, 5 salon rooms, 3 suites and a bridal suite.
There are 4 floors ...
...for the disabled.
The reception area was large and bright and decked out with sofas and occasional tables. The staff were friendly and efficient and all spoke English.
We had reserved the room and were checked into our room in minutes.
We had a standard room with a huge balcony with table and chairs. The room faced the sea but there was no view because this is reclaimed land and as it is below sea level there is a large dyke for protection which ...

Wellness in a Lovely Setting
