The New Forest, only 900 years old.

Advantages: See wild ponies and if you are lucky some deer.
Disadvantages: Busy in the summer holidays, public transport is poor.

~~Summary~~
The New Forest is a great area for walking, viewing flora, fauna, ponies and other animals in the wild, also there are good beaches around Bournemouth. In the New Forest there are parks and activities for visitors, along with a variety of small towns and quaint villages to visit. Also there are many little gravel car parks dotted across the forest for visitors to park the car and have a wander at their leisure.

The New Forest covers an area of approximately 150 square miles and is roughly bounded to the south by the sea, to the east by Southampton Water and to the West by the River Avon. The New Forest is made up of woodland, heaths, marsh and some arable land. Approximately half of the area is made up of woodlands ranging from ancient deciduous trees to pine tree plantations. Low Down on Longdown Activity Farm - New Forest

Advantages: A terrific family day out
Disadvantages: A bit of sun makes it much more fun

...at breaking point. As the weather was reasonably bright we decided to get out of the house. After a quick search on the Internet for somewhere nearby, we packed a picnic and headed off to the New Forest. The place we had chosen to visit was Longdown Activity Farm. The farm is open daily between 10am to 5pm from 12 Feb - 30 Oct and weekends only in November and December. Last admission is at 4pm. Getting there was really easy; we followed the M27 ...
...there. If you know the New Forest, it is between Totten and Ashurst off the A35. The car park is a large gritted area, which at a guess could hold over 100 cars. A very nice addition is the provision of 4 kennels, so you don't have to leave your dog in the car in high temperatures or sunshine. After parking up and disembarking the family we crossed the road to the farm itself. The admission prices were very reasonable: Adult £5.50 OAP £4.50 Child ...

The New Forest

Advantages: Surrounded by beauty and wildlife
Disadvantages: I haven't come across any yet

Well I am one of the lucky ones how lives here now. I moved here only 6 months ago after being here four times on holiday - I loved it that much. It is a great place to get away from the rat race, to unwind and admire the beautiful forest. The New Forest covers about 200 square miles of south west Hampshire and it was designated a National Park in 2005. The New Forest is renowned for its large expanse of heathland, which can appear quite bleak during ...
...look quite beautiful due to the colours of the heather. If you are an animal lover then this is the place for you. There are horses, ponies and cows which just "roam around" the forest. So watch out when driving. When I first moved down here I was amazed to see that a herd of cows crossing the road was causing such a traffic jam. We also have deer living here, which my husband has been lucky enough to see, driving home from work in the small hours, ...

The Naked Man I found in the Forest

Advantages: Breathtaking scenery, lots of history, many country pubs, close to major towns - Southampton and Bournemouth
Disadvantages: Need a car or cycle to experience all of the beauty, can get very boggy in winter

...am a true lover of the city, I need to have a bit of peace and tranquillity to balance out the hustle and bustle in my life. Ever since I was young my family have retreated to Hampshire and Dorset – in particular Bournemouth, Poole and the New Forest. LOCATION Roughly situated between Southampton, Bournemouth and Salisbury, the New Forest covers over 93000 acres. It is mostly owned by the Crown and is looked after and protected by the Forestry ...
...as I can be in the forest in little more than an hour by travelling along the M25, M3, and M27. The M27 leads onto the A31 which together with the A35 is probably the largest road running through the forest. Even after visiting the forest on more occasions than I can remember, I still feel an emotional twinge as the car pulls onto the A31. It’s as if my body knows that we are now out in the fresh, beautiful countryside. I know that my family feel ...

I slow down for ponies

Advantages: A beautiful place, lovely scenery, wildlife, villages and towns, plenty of accommodation, cheap holiday if the weather's good
Disadvantages: Can't rely on the weather

The New Forest is on the brink of being made a National Park - and not before time. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty, relatively unspoilt by development or excessive tourism, and having lived on the edge of the Forest for many years I am pleased that it is finally being given the status it deserves. The Forest is easily accessible from the motorway. Take the M27 Westbound as far as you can go, and take the last exit before it turns to ...
...kind of landscape does occur, the most typical feature of the New Forest is open space, the most common vegetation being gorse bushes, which are a sight to behold when in flower. Animals roam freely in the Forest, including on the roads. The most common are New Forest ponies, but cows, pigs and donkeys can also be seen at times. Caution should be taken when driving in the Forest, due to the animals on the road, and there is a blanket speed limit ...

The New Forest is Great

Advantages: Nice Forest. Attractive Heathland. Deer. Ponies
Disadvantages: Gets Busy

The New Forest in Southern England is one of the last remaining woodlands of its type in England's green and pleasant land. In typical English fashion,it is not new at all. Once a designated royal hunting ground it is an area of forest situated in Southern Hampshire and bordering Dorset, which has been wonderfully conserved, and there is a unique quality about it. A great place for camping, hiking, viewing wildlife and enjoying flauna and fauna. Coupled ...
...deal of interesting heathland, coupled with the lovely little New Forest ponies, red deer and other interesting fauna and flora. There are several very attractive little villages and towns in and around the New Forest including Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst and to the south is the yachting centre of Lymington facing the rustic Isle of Wight. The Park Headquarters are located at Lyndhurst. It attracts a goodly number of naturalists, campers ,cyclists, and ...

A place for all ages!!!!!

Advantages: Fun for everyone old and young
Disadvantages: Have not found any yet

I have lost count of the times that I have been to Bournemouth, I have been in every season Spring Summer Winter and Autumn and there is so much to do for every age group at every time of the year. The Oceanarium on the Sea front is a must on a rainy day, next to that you have the World Famous Harry Rambsdens to go for lunch, you have then got around 7miles of glorious sand that is always clean, if you are not a beach lover there is enough shops to keep you going for days, then you could always catch the bus into Poole or Boscombe or Christchurch. You are on the doorstep of the New Forest, brilliant for picnics or long walks. After all that if you are a night person you will find some of the best night clubs in England in and around Bournemouth. If you get bored in Bournemouth there must be no pleasing you. ...

Review of Bournemouth in General

Much More Than Just The Major Oak!

Advantages: Plenty to see and do
Disadvantages: Can get quite crowded at busy times

I am very fortunate to live within a 45-minute drive of some of the finest Countryside to be found anywhere in England. I live in Sheffield which is ideally located between the hilly, rocky Peak District National Park to the West and the contrasting flat, wooded area of Sherwood Forest to the East. Sherwood Forest covers a vast area, which occupies approximately one third of the County of Nottinghamshire. This is an area characterised by its patchwork of Woodland interspersed with ancient heath lands, which are scattered with settlements and farms, many of these have survived the ages and even today remain largely unchanged. Within its geographical location within England this habitat is unique and is similar to that found in the New Forest of Southern England and the Brecklands of East Anglia. I visit this area several times ...

Center Parcs - Longleat

Advantages: Great for families
Disadvantages: Not so great if you don't like kids

reports from friends we thought we would give Center Parcs a go. Center Parcs is a pretty big beast to try and review so although I will provide some background and booking options I will mainly be discussing our experiences and thoughts on dealing with the company and our time at the Longleat site. Center Parcs ~ Center Parcs was founded in Holland 30 odd years ago and came to the UK in 1987 promising a new kind of holiday camp experience. There are now four sites in England in the Whinfell Forest (Lake District), Sherwood Forest, Elveden Forest (Suffolk) and our destination in Longleat Forest in Wiltshire. The more observant of you will have noticed that they favour forest settings and this is a main part of the attraction for people, but more of that later. Although each site has a central plaza unlike many holiday camps they are set ...
