Advantages: Stylish rooms, great food, fantastic staff Disadvantages: You need a reason to go to Chipping Campden
around them. It's a great philosophy.
When the couple bought the hotel - at that time known as The Kings Arms - it was a pretty rough sort of place. A bit of a 'spit and sawdust' pub with rooms over and a problem with drunken teenagers, drugs (in the Cotswolds? Shock and horror - it's worse than The Archers) and general neglect. Today you'll not find any hairy smelly kids with a dog on a string cluttering up the public bar. It's much more likely to be filled with hotel residents and locals having a drink before popping into the restaurant for a blow-out dinner.
NOTE - if you are interested enough to hunt down more reviews on this hotel, be aware that anything before 2006 will be referring to the Kings Arms and not to 'The Kings' under its present ownership.

and Japanese and coach parties from the Women's Institute or the Allotment Society. In the days before digital cameras, the Cotswolds were the type of place where no matter how much you packed, you'd never have enough film for your camera. The whole area is exceptionally photogenic. However, in an area of great beauty, Mickleton is a little bit of an afterthought. It lacks the charm of ChippingCampden or the beauty of Broadway but if it were anywhere else you'd probably think it was a real cracker of a village (it's just the local competition is outstanding).
Mickleton doesn't have the same air of absolute preservation and authenticity and you will see houses that look as if they might actually have been built within the last 200 years or even the last 20. You probably couldn't fill a Jane Austin frock flick in Mickleton whereas you most ...
Advantages: Very good Hotel, great service Disadvantages: In the wrong place.
Just back from a weekend Jaunt to Ireland. We flew Ryanair Eastmidlands to Shannon, £38 return (No hold luggage and online checkin).
We booked the Oakwood Arms at Shannon, this was mainly as our return flight was 09:30 Monday morning and we did not want to get up early to travel.
We booked it thru LATEROOMS.COM for 85 Euros a night for Double room with Buffet Breakfast.
Ireland seems to be pricey for Hotels, so this was not too bad (We do cheaper when we go Venice).
We had hired a Car so after picking that up it was just a 10 min Drive into Shannon and the Hotel.
First Impressions were very good, better than most of the reviews we had read.
Its a low level building on the edge of Shannon, not that there's much in the middle of Shannon, just seems to be a Housing Estate.
Checkin looks very smart and professional ...
