The Old Dutch is one of a cluster of expat/tourist beer bars along Soi 23, Sukhumvit. Soi 23 runs at right angles to Soi Cowboy - famous for its Bangkok "nightlife". If you are just wanting a drink and something to eat, you'll find Soi 23 more to your taste.
The Old Dutch used to be great. Interesting "old Dutch" surroundings with a small library of second-hand paperbacks, newspapers and magazines to read, nice food, scrupulously clean toilets and in general, a very pleasant atmosphere. Then it went downhill. I got served what I believed were slops, the barman wouldn't change it. Nothing was quite right with it any more.
Then it changed management so we tried it again. Wow! It had been refurbished but retained all the original atmosphere. The staff were friendly and cheerful and the draft beer just fine. We decided to eat.
They have a large and varied menu. It has a Dutch bias, of course, but there is a huge choice with plenty of appetising things on offer. I got the fish and chips, which they like to boast is the best in Bangkok. It certainly was very nice, properly cooked and well presented, but the portion was the smallest I have ever seen anywhere. There were only seven chips!!!
That would put me off going back to a place, although the atmosphere is still good there and it is clean. I just can't bring myself to recommend it to you and I certainly won't be going back there.
