3 night break at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn, Castleton, Derbyshi

Advantages: Friendly. Clean. Central to village of Castleton. Great for walkers.
Disadvantages: Menu too extensive and too expensive.

We discovered the 'Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn' whilst searching the web for somewhere to stay in the Peak District. It was to be our first holiday away as a couple for 19 years! Finally leaving two teenagers behind (more than happy not to be dragged away on a walking holiday). The photograph on the website more than matched up to the real thing. Very friendly staff - efficient and obliging. There are 10 rooms of varying sizes. We had a 'standard double' - admittedly small but very clean and with an ensuite shower room. Breakfast each morning was from 8.30 - 9.30. As keen walkers, we would have preferred breakfast a little earlier. However, breakfast was excellent - the 'full English' for hearty appetites or any combination of lighter meals if required. The staff were more than happy to accommodate you. It must be said ...

A Sad Sign Of The Times For An Old Stagecoach Inn!

Advantages: Good Views. Decent Food
Disadvantages: No Atmosphere, No Character

The Dore Moor Inn is a very well known Public House in Sheffield. It sits high above the Western fringe of the City and was originally an old Stagecoach Inn. Beyond here the Hathersage Road (A625) continues on into the Peak District National Park and towards Castleton. The original Inn was built during the 18th century and became a popular stopover place for the Stagecoaches travelling between Sheffield and Manchester. Back in those days this place was called the Devonshire Arms, due to its association with the Duke of Devonshire who owned the majority of the land in this area. In 1821 a meeting took place at this Inn in which the Dore Old School Board of Trustees hired Richard Furness as Master. Richard Furness became a very well known and respected English Poet, earning himself the title, Poet of Eyam, due to the many Poems that ...

Premier Inn, Charing Cross Glasgow

Advantages: Close to town and all amenities
Disadvantages: none

I have never stayed in the Premier Inn before, but I felt I had to share my experience of the past weekend. The staff in both reception and the restaurant were fantastic, they were really helpful and made you feel right at home. The room and bathroom were both spotless, warm and the freeview television meant that my daughter didn't miss her soaps while she was away. The bed was both big and comfortable and we didn't have any trouble getting to sleep. We opted for the breakfast deal and we were not disappointed, the food was well cooked and warm there was also plenty of choice. Access to the hotel was excellent for both able bodied and non-able bodied people, we didn't have a wheelchair but we did have a six month old baby and a pram, and even though it is situated next to Charing Cross rail station we didn't hear a thing from ...
