The Pacific Beach, Honolulu

Advantages: Beach Front Location
Disadvantages: Expensive food

...The Marriott Waikiki Beach is in a prime location directly adjacent to Wakkiki Beach. Beautiful views and central to the Wakkiki life of Honolulu. If you want a true Hawaii experience then Wakkiki is not for you. Wakkiki is an excellent spot for surfing and lounging on the beach although avoid the sun aroun mid-day and if tehre are no locals surfing dont surf!!! The Marriot itself has spaceous rooms and many have views of the hillside of the sea. There are two places to eat in the Marriot, the restuarant which has a rather limitted menu and is quite expencive and the terrace cafe on the thrid floor. The cafe is next to one of the swimming pools so the fabric seats are often wet and the menu is also limited and again expensive. Advantages: This Island is beautiful.
Disadvantages: All the problems a tourist spot has.

...minutes to reach Wakkii Beach. ~O WHAT TO SEE O~ * Senior Citizens can ride the bus free so many take a tour this way. East of the Airport there are a few towns but I didn't find there was much to see or buy. The place to see is Pearl Harbor must book your tour early if you want to take the free Harbor Cruise Tour as so many people want to visit the Arizona Ship Memorial. The three Ships that were sunk when the Japanese attacked Oahu lies in the water below. I just read recently in the National Post, (a Canadian Newspaper), that the United States knew about the attack and had sunk a Japanese Submarine an hour before Pearl Harbor was attacked. ...If Honolulu conjures up images of grass skirts, garlands and deserted beaches, think again. Honolulu is the cross-roads of the Pacific and a bustling international city. Skyscrapers dominate the down town skyline as they do in any other US state capital. Which is not to say Honolulu is a bad place to visit, just that it may not be what you expect. At Pearl Harbour you can visit the wreck of the USS Arizona, bombed by the Japanese. There is little good value accommodation in Honolulu. It is better to stay in neighbouring Waikiki. No vaccinations needed Flight time from UK is about 19 hours which is pretty horrendous.There is a good network of local buses.
