Advantages: Cheap, Convenient Disadvantages: Prehaps too far from Fishermans Wharf if only a stop-over break?
I stayed at the Pickwick with 3 friends in April 2007. It's a very pleasant hotel situated within walking distance of the cable car turnaround and Union Square, and can't be faulted for it's price given the fairly central location for shopping/business. It's probably about 20 minutes to Fishermans Wharf via cable car from here.

The room which we had was situated at the rear of the building away from the road, so was quiet. Being an 'old' hotel dating back to the early 1900's, the rooms are all generally quite small and compact, which we were told about when checking in. We were on a road trip of the USA and on a shoestring budget, so sharing the room between 4 was difficult given the size, but the hotel can't be faulted for our decision, and offered an additonal room upon check-in if we required.
There is a tidy little fitness room and business room with 2 PC's and Printer which we made full use of - no complaints here.
Al in all, great little find, comfortable (if maybe a tad smaller than 'standard') rooms and very good area for shopping, travel links etc.
