The title of this review is part of a little speech I heard a very happy customer make to the owner of The Pink Teapot, and I completely agree with it!

In A Nutshell

The Pink Teapot is an amazing retro (and you know how I love my retro places!) cafe in the market-town of Otley. It sells freshly made little treats such as scones, caramel shortbread and more, scrumptious drinks (aah, that hot chocolate...), paninis, butties with locally-produced bacon, the best cakes you will ever taste, jacket potatoes and more...and the best thing is, it is sold with a smile (you also know how picky I am about customer service!)

The Good

Everything! As soon as you walk through the door you are met by a group of the nicest people of Otley, who give you a smile and a wave (if they're busy) or a little chat if they're not too busy. If you look down to your left you will see a cute little board with 'messages' from famous people who have supposedly 'visited' the cafe (though somehow I doubt that!!) It is very fun to look at and I enjoy spotting the recently added ones - it seems between my last visit and the next none other than Mr Elvis Presley had been - I wish I could have seen that! The cafe decor is beautiful, it very pink and has got vintage-style posters and plaques on the walls with little messages such as 'I can only please one person a day, today is not your day and tomorrow doesn't look too good either' and the tables are covered in pink and white polka dot table covers. One of the lovely waiters/waitresses will guide you to a table (if you are lucky you get the squishy sofas!) and there you choose from the pink, personalised menu. Once you have ordered, and you can be as picky as you want, "I'd like a bacon sandwhich, but with all the fat cut off, no butter and it cut into triangles" - not that I've asked exactly that - and they will do it for you! The atmosphere is quirky, retro and very relaxed!

The Bad

Sometimes you are turned away (in the nicest way possible!) as they are full, which is to be expected, I suppose, in such an amazing cafe! If that happens to us we always wait outside, even if it's raining, as it is such a lovely place it is definitely worth the wait! Also, if you don't live near-ish Otley, you can't visit it, which is definitely the worst part! Seriously though, if you are passing, go, go, go!!

My Experience

I have never been so impressed with a cafe! Each time I walk in, I am greeted with a smile and a wave. The staff are always so kind and cheerful and I love their little pink spotty outfits. I am led to a table by one of the 'Little Pink Helpers' (as they are called on the menu) and then I get to the bad bit...having to choose out of all the gorgeous choices! I normally go for a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows (mmm!) and scones with jam and cream, or a chocolate milkshake and the best bacon sandwich I have ever tasted! *Bacon courtesy of local butchers: J.B Wilkinson & Sons* I relish them and try to savour them, but I can't help it, they are soooo mouth wateringly tasty they are gone in a flash! My mum (aka Queen Of Extremely Weak Hot Beverages) is famous for wanting her hot drinks as weak as anything - dishwater tea anyone? Anyway, she always asks for 'a really really really really really weak latte' and one of the lovely Pink Ladies has got so used to it she remembers her and just says 'one of your lattes?'. But on our last visit my mum was still at the hairdressers, so when we asked for one of her 'weak lattes' I think they forgot and just made a normal one. When my mum arrived she tried to drink it, but decided to go ask for more milk to make it weaker. But did they give her it? No! Instead, bless their pink and white polka-dot socks, they made her a new, 'really really really really really weak latte'! She was so surprised and pleased, but she kept saying 'honestly, you really don't have to, it's fine, it's fine, honestly', but they still made her another drink (perfect, this time!), and without the slightest huffy attitude, they seemed happy to make another and it was obvious it was their best interest to make sure everything was to the highest standard. The food is brilliant quality, the atmosphere, the staff, even the menu is perfect!

Price-Wise

The cafe is not very expensive, and it is well worth it's cost!

All in all...

Well, I'm obviously going to say it's horrible, aren't I?!? No, seriously, 'the nicest cafe in Yorkshire!'. Never seen an unhappy customer there!

If You Like This, Go To...

Japanese style Tetsubin cast iron deep pink bamboo teapot kettle 0.65 Litre

Japanese style Tetsubin cast iron deep pink bamboo teapot kettle 0.65 Litre

Cast iron teapots were originally created in ancient china. They were then adopted and ... more

developed by the Japanese in the 17 century into
practical as well as decorative handicraft items
sold under the name of Tetsubin. The cast iron tea
pots symbolize the everlasting strength and unity
of the world and the more intricate are often
given as gifts and kept as status symbols. Through
special treatments, impurities are removed from
the cast iron during the production process. A
coating of misty black enamel is then applied to
help prevent the formation of rust. Due to their
strength of construction these pots may be used as
kettles (to boil water) or as tea pots (to brew
tea). Most sizes come with a stainless steel mesh
infuser for brewing loose tea. If using the pot to
boil water this infuser should be removed before
doing so.  Before using to brew tea, boil a pot of
water and pour it out to prepare the pot for use.
After each use, make sure that the pot is clean
and dry to prevent the formation of rust. Tea
should not be left in the pot overnight. In the
unlikely event of rust, the pot can still be used.
After cleaning the area with a soft brush, boil
used teabags or tealeaves. The tannic acid from
the tea will react naturally with the iron
producing a coating over the area. Store your pot
in a cool, dry place or put it on display. These
cast iron teapots and kettles have a flat base
suitable for Range style Cookers. You may want to
consider buying one of our Cast Iron Trivets to
match your teapot.
