Situated alongside the picturesque River Ouse, the Queens Hotel, York is in a key position within central York. All local amenities are yards away, and the city centre is only across a footbridge!
York railway station is located approximately 0.5 miles away, so this is perfect for a break without the hassle of driving. Leeds and Bradfordairport is only 24 miles away, and can be reached then by taxi, public transport or even hire car. However, if you do want to drive, the motorway junction (A1) is around 11 miles away.
All rooms are equipped with en suite, tv and tea and coffee making facilities, but im sure you will only use these at night, as there are so many other places to eat and drink. The Riverside Bar is ideal for a few quiet drinks before dinner, where you can find a large selection of dishes at the Royal Brasserie. If this sounds too pricey for your liking, takeaways and fast food restaurants can be found a short walk away! And yes, although the food is slightly more expensive than other town centre equivalents, you must remember what you are getting! There aren't may places that you can relax alongside the river and enjoy a bite to eat! And you are paying for quality! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here; the lasagne was gorgeous and the staff were commendable! The oppostie side of the river is crammed full of bars and restaurants, which are most popular during the summer with tourists wishing to relax outside by the river - so make sure you get there early!
Ground floor rooms, and non smoking rooms can be booked if available, and cots are available on request.
The prices are based per person per night, and can be very costly, but if you want a comfortable stay then its worth paying the prices. Prices start at £45, but this is for the room only. But considering the quality of the food at the restaurant, i suggest going half board. It will generally cost £85 for a single room and £57.50 per person if you're sharing a twin, double, triple or family room (the maximum occupancy is 4 people per room). Although this may seem quite expensive, it is relatively good value considering the prices of other similar hotels in the area! Also this price covers the whole of your stay, whether its for one night or seven. This price includes breakfast and dinner. For example, the price of a single room here is the same price of that at the local Holiday Inn. So instead of paying over £150 for three nights, you only pay £85. And you get food too! So its obvious that, with all the added facilities, the Queens Hotel is better value for money.
The rooms are available as:
Room Only Continental Breakfast Full Breakfast Breakfast and Dinner
The prices increase accordingly, so its best to check with you trave agent or the hotels website before booking. If you do wish to book room only, there are lots of shops and restaurants to suit every need and taste.
Depending on what time of year you go, expect queues at check-in. This is especially the case during the summer months, as the riverside location makes it very popular. There is parking at this hotel, but spaces are limited - so book early in advance - especially during summer. Parking at the hotel will cost £10 whereas offsite parking 300m away will set you back £16, so for cheaper and safer parking, make sure you plan ahead. Luckily, during may it wasnt very busy, and on arrival, we were even shown to our room. You dont often get that at a Travel Inn! We were definitely made to feel welcome, and had no hesitations about asking for help. Luckily, everyone we spoke to was native to the area and was able to help us in regards to finding tourist attractions! This is good when ur useless at directions like me!
So if you want a relaxing break with all your attractions nearby, then this is definitely for you!
