Cinematography. Galway in the 1920s. After a long and profitable career as a boxer, Irish-born Americans Sean Thornton (John Wayne) returns to his home village to settle down and forget an accident in which he killed an opponent in the ring. Sean buys back the Thornton cottage, incurring the wrath of neighbouring squire Red Will Dansher (Victor McLaglen) whose sister Mary Kate (Maureen O'Hara) he's fallen in love with. With the drunk Michaeleen Flynn (Barry Fitzgerald) as marriage broker, and with Red Will reluctant to allow the courtship to go ahead, Sean Thornton has to battle against all manner of Irish blarney to get the hand of the girl he loves. One of the most popular romances ever made, and featuring one of the classic fights in cinema history.Rooster Cogburn:Two of the most popular stars in screen history are brought together for the first time in the follow-up to 'True Grit.' The film returns John Wayne to the role of the rapscallion, eye-patched, whisky-guzzling Deputy Marshall that won him an Academy Award. Katherine Hepburn is prim Eula Goodnight, a Bible-thumping missionary who teams up with the gun-fighter to avenge the death of her father. While in pursuit of the outlaws, a warm rapport develops between the rough-and-tumble lawman and the flinty Reverend's daughter.

the only problem being she is the sister of his now rival Will and as the town is very old fashioned Sean has tog et the permission of Will to court her. With the help of the drunk Michaeleen, the town marriage broker and taxi driver and all round drunk he tries to get Will to change his mind but when he point blank refuses Sean gives up.
Will the townspeople be able to change Will?s mind and will the two rivals ever make peace?
I was quiet impressed with this film as it is far from being a western or cowboy film. The storyline was very good and I did learn from it, the ways of the old fashioned dating experience was new to me and I did find it interesting how they had to ask permission to from the man of the house to date a lady and how they were not allowed to be on their own when courting. This did lead to some funny moments in ...
Advantages: it's quiet and the views Disadvantages: shop opening time
As we haven't been camping for about 4 years and the youngest had never been we decided she was old enough to take the plunge.
