The Regent Almaty Hotel, Almaty

Advantages: Executive rooms great, good security, nice pool
Disadvantages: Regular rooms mediocre, inconsistent service

.... Most of the people are pleasant enough, if a little serious and unsmiling. Check in itself is reasonably swift, though any requests out of the ordinary can take a little explaining. SUMMARY Generally acknowledged as one of the two best hotels in Almaty. The other one, the Regent, is probably more luxurious and a little more consistent but also more expensive. The Hyatt is less luxurious than Grand Hyatts, but on a par with most other Hyatt's I've stayed in. A bit frustrating sometimes, and you know they could do better, but more than adequate! One of the best things is the view; Almaty is at the foot of the Tian Shan mountain range, and every morning opening the curtains you get a view of the sun over the mountains - stunning. ...I stay in Marriott Hotels regularly and have been doing so for the past ten years or so. They are always my preference and the Regents Park Marriott Hotel is always the Marriott that I prefer to stay in when I stay in a hotel in London. I have stayed in there quite a few times (not sure exactly how many) but up until this weekend I had never stayed in there with my family. I have stayed there for business, I have stayed there with friends when we wanted a big night out in London and now I've also stayed there with my family for a family weekend (including children) in London. Every time I had a wonderful stay in a lovely but unfortunately I don't think that it's the most family friendly place, especially when you compare it to other Marriotts (particularly the Swansea and Swindon Marriott's). -The Rooms- All Marriott rooms are... ...I went to the Regent Hotel in February 08 for a 2 night stay. I found the hotel after endless hotel searches in Ambleside which seemed to all bring up dated, old-fashioned looking hotels which weren't what we wanted. The Regent offered a refreshing alternative with modern looking bedroom, all recently refurbished. We paid £300 for 2nights bed and breakfast for 2 people. The hotel was easy to find and was right near Lake Windermere as promised. We managed to park the car easily in the car-park, although we did notice that once everyone had checked in for the day the car-park looked rather full. It was only a short walk from where we parked to the reception, we only had small weekend bags but wouldn't have had a problem with suitcases.
