The Roman Bath is located at the north end of Parliament Street in York. Walk north from the fountain (near HSBC), then you will find a square. The Roman Bath is on the left hand side of three pubs. The Crane is one of them...don't enter unless you want to arrange a contract killing.

Speaking of the bar, like in most pubs in York, the John Smith's/Carling combination is prevalent. Well, I know all 11 of you who read my ops are going to be sad to hear it, but this is my final York Pubs opinion. Ah well, maybe I'll have to go on a few field trips to sort some new places to review ;)

The main attraction of the Roman Bath is surprisingly not the roman bath. Live music is on here most weekdays, and you tend to get middle aged blokes who are actually pretty good. Then again, some aren't. But at least its near Efe's, my favourite kebab van (I don't know why), so you can listen while you eat your donner meat and chips.
Its generally packed, so seating is not easy to find. If its mild, you can sit out the back, on big picnic benches, and there's a small hatch so you can place orders at the bar if needs be. Or food.

However, again like most pubs in York, a range of other drinks are available at a normal price (i.e. £1.80 for a pint of bitter, £2.40 for a cider and blackcurrant). They are notably well stocked in less than fashionable alcopops!!! Always good for a sweet laugh!
Apart from the bands, the Bath offers absolutely no form of entertainment. This is disappointing. The decor also is rather pathetic...could do with a rethink I reckon.
Furthermore, the toilets are not good. This is to be expected from a pub that has suffered a rather clear lack of investment. They do, however, beat the legendary Ferryboat Inn in Thorganby......there, the urinal is a brick wall with a bit of guttering diverting fluids into a drain.
Nevertheless, the Roman Bath is one of the few places where live music can be found in York on a Friday night. However, the pub does have notable deficiencies, so you wouldn't really want to stop there for more than a half hour.
On a slightly related note, if you want to get more information on York pubs, please read my opinions in the 'Home » City Guide » Nightlife Guide » Pubs » York (Pubs)' category. Also, my opinion on the Old White Swan contains a pub crawl route around the named pubs, which the Roman Bath does not feature in, but is easily squeezed in around the Efe's period. Happy drinking!
Advantages: Very friendly staff, nice clean rooms live music, very central Disadvantages: noisy from live music
I totally disagree that the pub is minging. The rooms were very nice and cheap, pleasantly decorated with en-suite bathroom. The staff were great, very friendly and relaxed. It is in an ideal location for the attractions, restaurants and pubs etc and has the wonderful Roman Spa to visit that was excavated by builders years ago and opened to the public for viewing (very interesting).
The pub itself was noisy in the evenings because of the great rock ...

Advantages: lots to see, street markets, food markets, great value for money. Disadvantages: they need to invest in developing the place, it needs it.
A few months ago, before this "crunch" (when we could still afford it), we went on a week's trip to oxford, bath & weston-super-mare.
the most intresting one was the trip to bath. we arrived at 09:00 and had the all day to toure the place. the city itself is a small version of an old roman city (it WAS a roman city) in witch the main attraction is the old romanbaths (not the only attraction).
the whole city is built on a mountain and so you'll probably have more fun driving there with a 4x4 (i took my toyota land cruiser and felt like a king). the entrance to baths cost about £12 a person but i think it changes by the season. you get a talking device that explains the history of the place as you go inside and lets you stop and look (and hear) about the different intresting points along the way.
we didn't use the device as there is so ...
Advantages: Central location, Beautiful Architecture, Historically Interesting Disadvantages: Ticket Price
My fiancé and I recently visited Bath for a long weekend for our anniversary, and regardless of his views, my main priority was to visit the RomanBaths and most importantly, sample some of the famous Aquae Sulis water. So the moment that the sun came out (which unfortunately for us was not very often), we trundled from our hotel down to the museum.
Centrally located, and easy to find thanks to Bath's extremely good signage, the buildings incorporating the RomanBaths and Pump Rooms are obvious as you encounter them. The entrance to the museum and Pump Rooms is opulent, and reflects what I personally would have expected from the Romans with marble floors and high ceilings.
On entrance to the museum you are first expected to part with your hard earned cash. The ticket prices were £11.25 a head (which is the rate charged ...
Advantages: Plenty to see, good value for money, educational, well organised. Disadvantages: Limited disabled access, can be tiring, often busy.
ROMANBATHS MUSEUM
My eldest daughter has had her 13year-old German student, Linda, over for the past week and a bit. One of the places she was especially interested in visiting was the RomanBaths museum in, erm, Bath. Her English textbook has a whole unit devoted to it and her teacher had advised her to go, if she had the chance to.
So the four of us – hubby and I, my eldest and Linda – spent last Friday in Bath, braving the rain and discovering the historic delights of Aquae Sulis. We had previously checked out the details on the website and knew a visit would take about two hours and that our cheapest option was purchasing a family ticket for £22, which we did.
The museum is easy to find, as it is right near the Abbey and well signposted. As we approached, it appeared there was a very long queue and we thought we ...
